There are two different root guides I've found which contain different files and different instructions. Which one should I follow? What's the difference? Very confused here.

    Thanks!

I used theunlockr for rooting the phone and doing the first ROM. Then I used the ROM Manager from the App Market to do my backups and new ROMs. The free version gives you everything but Cyanogen Nightly Updates. Thats in the pay version. Worth it though and support these guys! This is the easiest way for the not so savy. Check out this video and at the end you will see how ROM Manager works: Easiest way to backup, flash and restore a custom ROM – Android and Me

    Good luck

So everything appeared to go fine but I got a black screen on boot. What gives?

Ok, yesterday I forgot to upgrade ext2 to ext3, whatever that means. Right now I'm waiting through the black screen to see if it works. Assuming the black screen is just a delay, will it do this every time??
