    Hi and welcome

I do read French, but as the is an English language forum I will answer in English :)

Before you go abroad, you should do one of:

    a) Get your phone SIM unlocked so you can use a different SIM when abroad. Your home carrier should be able to do this. There may be a charge, depending where you are.

    b) Make sure your contract/service includes international roaming for the country you are visiting. This will be more expensive!

Most people try to use wifi services when abroad such as Voxer, Viber, Hangouts etc You need to make sure your contacts back home have the apps installed as well.

Carriers lock their phones to keep you tied into them - its about money. Some countries are better than others regarding your rights. In france carriers have to unlock phones at no charge once they have been on contract for 3 months. Prior to that they can (and do) charge.

    Roger
