Help Data bill-help with running apps

I know there are a few threads on this so I have been checking my data usage. This month for the first time I have gone over. I rang Orange and they said I was being charge

There are some core apps which are required for the phone to function correctly and if you kill them, they'll just start up again.

Unfortunately, the only way to get rid of them/freeze them is to root and install something like Titanium Backup.

I have now switched of my 3g network.

I always switch off my Data connection, and only switch on when I want to check emails or go on the internet etc..
Its just a simple press and hold on the lock button and activate Data, takes 2 seconds. Or I use wifi at home or the BT openzone hotspots.
