So, apparently since the 16th, so in about 6 days I've used 40 MB of Data. I can only use data when I go out of town because my home town doesn't have service, how could I use that much especially when I've probably only left town about three for like four hours at a time??? How does that happen? Am I wrong or is that a lot of Data?

depends on what you are doing. do you have a lot of widgets and apps updating constantly? are you doing any tethering? how much are you browsing? a lot of factors are involved.

i use about 3 GBs a month. but i also tether a lot

I can go through hundreds of MB in a week. If you browse the web a lot, or use multimedia based services, its not hard to do.

You can check your usage by dialing #3282 (DATA) on your handset, downloading the FREE My Verizon app from the Android Marketplace, or by logging into My Verizon.

    3g watchdog is easier =)

  8. I have been surprised to note how little data adds up with usage on this phone.

Perhaps it's because I do not tether or run a lot of multimedia. Plus, as cleverly mentioned above, background updating by apps will keep nickels dropping, and I don't have much of that going on either.

About half a gigabyte per month seems to be about my average with the browser use, etc. But I use it every day, thus my surprise that it was so low.

  10. But there are radios everywhere. I can't get away from infernal radios! WHY WOULD I WANT AN INFERNAL RADIO ON MY PHONE?!

To the OP, you can go on the myverizon web site and see your data usage broken down by day. That may help you to determine what's pulling the data.

The music I listen to isn't played on commercial radio which is aimed at an illiterate public.

Listening to the radio today is like only reading comic books.

Pandora does a wonderful job of assigning very specific criteria to music, and creating play lists which reflect my musical tastes.

I get to experience art, rather than the tripe most people listen to.

I too was surprised to see how little data I use. I'm on day 27 of 30 in the current billing cycle and have only used 363MB. I'd figured it would have been over a Gig.
My wife has used about 150MB. Chances are she could benefit from stepping down to a cheaper data plan, when Verizon announces the new rate system.

But Pandora is commercial free. Or at least it was.

  18. I think that carriers make a lot of money with data usage, as people more and more use their phones for things they used to use an MP3 player or other devices for.

I just won't tie up my phone with playing much multimedia, outside of the occasional news video if I'm waiting somewhere for something like in a line at the airport.

TV. Radio. CD/DVD player. Computer. Eris.

Very little overlap for me.. below average data use I'd guess.. so yes, when the data tiers are announced I'll have a close look at them.

    I don't think it's free.

I also don't think they play a very diverse selection of Classical, Jazz, or World music.

I subscribed to XM before the merger. I'm more often in a situation where I am not able to listen to it so in those cases I use Pandora. I wanted to install the SiriusXM app, but you have to have a premium account and for me, premium is more than I really need. Since I bought the Eris, I've abandoned my iPod and transferred all my MP3's over to my phone and use my iPod solely for audio books.

I usually use a little over a gig a month. Not sure where my biggest data draw is from. It's not like I listen to Pandora every day all day. I tend to surf alot my cache gets big rather quickly, so I know surfing eats up alot. Not sure how much updates eat. Unlimited data plans make it easy to just take alot of things for granted and not even really think about how much data your gobbling up

  21. Your data usage and habits are probably a lot closer to the norm.

The "unlimited" that I have now is obviously more than I need. :D

I did that, there are two huge amount on one day that add up to about 15MB but I can't figure out what they are from?? It doesn't tell me what was using the data, just that it was unlimited data usage. So idk? But I was looking at it and I used 40MB in six days (more like two) and verizon's current 9.99 data plan has a cap of 25MB!
