dude, im glad you are taking charge of this and keeping things civil!
everything seems more like a team effort at this point and i hope it stays like this. im a researcher of alot of tech, so i know how it feels to have that negativity interfere with progress.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

    Thanks....
I am not doing anything special, I think that most all of us here are pretty polite and good intention people...
Sometimes we all get a little frustrated of impatient, but thats life right?

ok, not getting negative about the rooting...but i subscribed to this new thread because a group were hell bent on making it "on topic", "supportive", and "updated"...and i was all about that. yet tons of people can't control themselves. now i get daily email updates of questions/answers/crap that are in numerous other threads. could a mod clean this up please?

i'm not even sure if someone has thrown this out there within that last like 25 posts because i gave up reading...

I think I dont really understand what your saying....
But the Eris Root Dev Team, is actually held in a private forum for Devs only...
The purpose of this thread is a place for me to give everyone updates on the team that I speak for..
Of course other random talks and questions and comments are going to made, that is just the nature of online forums...
if you look in my signature there is a link to the XDA thread that I also manage and update with any news on Root Status and Bounty for it and Explots tried and what not...
I would say that you should follow that one if you want less "Random" information.

Use the "Report Post" function although I'm not sure how active the moderators or admins here are.

linux user with some programming experience (not a lot), I work in IT and am looking to expand my horizons. Can anyone experienced with finding root for phones point me in the right direction for reading/learning more. Not sure where to start. Googled around a bit only to find root how to's for phones that already had root and they explained how to do it. I want to get more in depth knowledge. Thanks, and thank you to the devs working hard on this root, can't wait!

Don't forget the converse with rooting as well. Overclocking to get more programs running smoothly and all, but if you're after more battery life, taking out crap like Voice Dialer, Footprints and all will lower the stress on the processor (although more for RAM than anything) and may help you save battery.

A lot of us, myself included, associate rooting with bigger, faster, stronger, but it can also simply be lighter, smaller and still quicker. Addition by subtraction. Bump down the processor speed since you may not need as much for all the programs you deleted.

It's called topic drift, and it is common everywhere.

I find it entertaining here, and also I find it interesting and fun that the root devs show up to banter now and then in addition to their updates.

You'll probably get some kudos from a mod or two though.

I'm still curious as to how rooting is done. I really hope it's like jailbreaking an iPhone. A program pops up, you press one button, and then everything's done. If not, there will be tons of problems reported on here about bricked phones, myself included.

As somebody who's actually fine with his battery life, here's my crazy plan:

Once we're rooted, pick up a 1750 mAh battery, and see how much faster it allows me to set the clock rate, while still getting the same battery life as I was with the stock battery (which I'm perfectly happy with).

I wouldn't expect it to be any spectacular increases, but if I could up the processor just a tad (even just up to the 528MHz our processors rated for, if what I've read is true and we are underclocked by default) that'd be worth my $50. No stupid illusions of turning it into a Nexus 1 or anything, but I would like to beef it up a little to handle the apps we'll have access to in 2.1.

Well put and exactly what I was thinking, along with decrapifying the phone to lighten that load as well (someone mentioned this before).

Colin Chapman once said "Adding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere." I like the idea of applying both to the Eris :)

    Good luck devs!!

Those apps do NOT run in the background (and take up CPU time).

Yeah, I dunno how Footprints makes its way into my memory. Almost always running when I used a task killer, and I'm sure it is now.

back when i had a Task killer and checked processes most of the apps that i just listed were background running processes. I think they are somehow weaved into sense so when Sense is running(which it always is) so are they.

Correct me if I am wrong. I thought that we are already running at 528 mhz but were originally supposed to be running at 728 mhz. I read...that we were under clocked by 200 mhz. I just want to make sure I understand you right. I did a quick search on google and all results show that we have a 528mhz. Unless you have other source, I'd love to read it.
