Our company has a lot of sub offices around the country that have their land line numbers and/or fax numbers in addition to mobile phone numbers used by the employees. What is the best way to create a "downloadable" contact list to use with a custom made or otherwise an existing application in a manner that will simplify the usage of this contact list while at the same time enabling all the employees of the company to download it and use it? Please note that it is preferred to have a dedicated application to this contact list in a sense that it has only our company's contacts listed and not the personal contacts of the device owner.

    All you Android Gurus,

    Here goes nothing:

    "
If you believe in the power magic,
    I can change your mind
And if you need to believe in someone,
    Turn and look behind
When we were living in a dream world,
    Clouds got in the way
We gave it up in a moment of madness
    And threw it all away

Don't answer me, don't break the silence
    Don't let me win
Don't answer me, stay on your island
    Don't let me in

Run away and hide from everyone
Can you change the things we've said and done?

If you believe in the power of magic,
    Its all a fantasy
So if you need to believe in someone,
    Just pretend its me
It ain't enough that we meet as strangers
    I cant set you free
So will you turn your back forever on what you mean to me?

Don't answer me, don't break the silence
    Don't let me win
Don't answer me, stay on your island
    Don't let me in

Run away and hide from everyone
Can you change the things we've said and done? "

Uh, ok. That second post is weird.

Anyway, you can make another Google Account and fill it up with contacts and have people sync to their phones. You can have multiple Google accounts syncing to a phone. This also allows a webmaster to manage it and make changes which will reflect on all who syncs to it.

Thank you for your answer Mr. ChanChan. I had to send a distress signal in the Android cosmos hoping it will be picked up :)

I have two comments on your proposed solution:

    1. if the device syncs to two Google account, then the contacts from the two accounts will be in the same address book or application that uses these accounts... Am I wrong? We prefer to have our contact list separate from the other contacts present on the phone to facilitate the retrieval of contacts from this list.

    2. If we are to have a second Google account, how will the users of smart devices sync to it? They will need to have the password to the account... this would make easy for anyone to tamper with it.

    Thank you.

    1. Smartphones can handle contact groups. Sure when you open you see the entire contact list, but looking at contacts by groups is also available.

    3. Ah, so you don't want the people to be able to edit the contacts. Hmm, the only thing I can think of is to route it via Outlook.com. You can create an Outlook.com syncs one way from Google, but cannot sync changes back. You can thus sync this contact list to the phone.

    3. A third option would be to create an app that has its own database of numbers, in which selecting one can give the option of call or SMS that number. Sort of like a chat app. You'd need to hire a developer for that one though.

If we were to use Outlook, we have an Exchange server at our company but unfortunately not all employees have accounts. So how could we use Outlook.com as a solution (together with a Google account?) I am a bit unclear about this...

You can have both Outlook.com and Google accounts syncing to the phone at the same time. Both will be appearing in the contacts app.
