Default android calendar, color coding disappeared

I use the default calendar on the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge - it used to be the perfect little calendar for me. I can no longer color code my inputs, or change the color after inputting. The color coding option has completely disappeared.

Anything I input is set to blue, which isn't even the default color. I use IFTTT to put the forecast on my calendar daily, and that comes in red, which is the default color.

The phone did an update recently, so I'm assuming it was changed at that time. Is there anyway to fix this? If not, what calendar offers the simplicity and ease of use that android calendar offered - I do not need a bunch of bells and whistles. But the color coding is pretty important to me, that was the feature I relied on most.

    Thank you

Is the Samsung default calendar the Google calendar or a Samsung calendar?

I use Google's calendar, the colors did change recently but I can change them in settings (and have), they 'stick'. I have a lot of sub-calendars set up and each has a different color and they all display correctly both on my phone and online. If I change the color online it shows as a custom color in settings on my phone. Some are default colors (like grape!) and some are custom now.

Do you mean that you don't have sub-calendars set up and everything goes to the default category but you change the color? Even so, I just clicked on an entry to edit it and have the option to change the color.

I don't have a Samsung phone so none of this may help you though. But. The Google calendar seems to do what you want it to do.

It is not the Google calendar, so it must be Samsung. I always assumed it was Android, but never really bothered to check. The icon is white rounded corner square with green "wed 13" on it.

The option to change/select color is gone. It was there last week, and has been there for years - I noticed yesterday it was gone.

For example - for my sons hockey lessons, I use dark blue; for my personal meets, I use yellow; for the husbands activities, I use green. I have seven different colors that I use - I can open the calendar and see at a glance what types of activities are happening that day. Now, I can not do that - it all goes in as 1 color.

I doubt I can fix it, I really just want a basic calendar application that works in a similar fashion. I don't need a bunch of bells and whistles.

Google Calendar - pretty basic but can be sync'd between phone and laptop/desktop. Very handy.

There are a bizillion calendar apps in the Play store, some are very basic and some very complex. I've always used Google (even before I got my first Android phone way back in '09) so the calendar apps I choose/use sync with that. I have used, and liked, Business Calendar and Simple calendar in the past. I'm currently using Calengoo. I've also just used the Google calendar I linked above, it's more than adequate but I like a fancy widget and more features :)

Install some and try them, if you don't like them just uninstall and try another.

    edit to add links:
    Business calendar
    Simple calendar

I have Google calendar installed, and I can use it (I find it really fussy, though)

An interesting tidbit - my husband and I have the same phone, and use the same calendar. We checked, and we both have the same version - his still allows the color coding. Extremely strange.

Try clearing cache in the calendar; settings/apps/calendar app/clear cache/force stop.

So I'm back - I've been using the Google Calendar app, and a few days ago I lost the ability to use color coding on that app. If I uninstall and reinstall, I can do I 1 event entry with a color code, but after that it disappears. There has to be some kind of setting somewhere that is creating this problem. It's beyond frustrating, and makes my calendar nearly useless. Any idea where I can get help on this?

Same thing has happened to me in the last week and it's insanely frustrating! The icon for the calendar app has changed too...oh and during the update it lost all previous data too.

Feels like someone accidentally deleted a chunk of code!

I also can no longer select a color for a calendar event!! Just two days ago it was fine! I use this color coding all the time, it's very frustrating! I have had the Galaxy S7 Edge for over a year now and never had this issue before. Now it just makes all entries a blue/teal color..... Very frustrating!! I can not find a way to fix it.
