Default ip of wifi hotspot changed

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have been using my HTC mobile wifi hotstop to connect my laptop to internet.
The default ip my laptop was getting assigned to was 192.168.42.7 (which is usual for android device) as I read.

However , since today afternoon the fefault ip assigned to my laptop changed to 169.254.3.37.

My laptop gets connected to mobile wifi hotspot but there is no data transfer.
I can use internet in the mobile at the same time though as usual.

How can I fix this ip issue? I do not want to root the device.

I will be really grateful for your help.

With regards,
sb

1.) Is your hotspot working from your device to your Laptop?
2.) If you want to successfully transfer data to your laptop from your device. It's best to connect USB charging data cable and enable MTP in device USB settings.
3.) Yes you can run hotspot connection to your laptop at the same time without interfering with each others usage.

Hi,

I am really thankful for your reply, however I want to clarify that, by data transfer I wanted to mean internet data transfer.
1. Probably you are also right, may be I can use HTC sync tool for internet data transfer but I did not try that.

2. I was connecting my laptop to my mobile wifi hotspot. Then I was using internet in my laptop.

Anyhow today morning when I first checked , it was same as yesterday.
Then I visited HTC site for support information.
Then I just turned off and on the tethering and hotspot connection and changed the hotspot password.
After that as usual everything started working, with usual 192.168.42/43.x range ip.
I am not sure how it got fixed, bit surprised.

Anyhow thank you so much for your help, concern and this website.

Yours sincerely,
sb
