Deleted SMS recovery tool?

I was clearing out my messages yesterday in the hope that it would cure my Hero's ever degenerating response times.

I was selecting threads and deleting them, but the stupid thing deleted loads of messages which I simply did not tell it to.

Does anyone know of a way to recover messages? Are they in a trash area on the disk somewhere or otherwise retrievable? Have hundreds of texts which I wanted to retain but are now gone.

Damn you you useless Hero.
