Anyone else having issues with a slow internet connection on o2? Also when i try to watch a vid on the bbc i player app im getting a msg saying that im connected via edge or gprs and i need to view via wifi or 3g. Im in a 3g area as the people beside me in work can get a good 3g signal via O2 also.

I never had these issues on my C905

    Thoughts please

    Is your sim 3g enabled?
Have you ever seen the 3g icon appear?

Aye I got a new sim sent out which they said should be 3g capable. What does the 3g symbol look like? Is it the H icon?

    Thanks

i'm having the same issue on my Desire, i have a 3G sim but the best connection i can get is Edge. i never had a 3G connection issue on my previous phone in my area (nokia e71). I cant find any option to select 3G either

I can get an Edge connection often enough and once in a blue moon a H connection. its a mystery why people a few feet away from me can get 3g and I cant

Ive had a look through the settings and cant find anywhere to activate it either

H is a faster connection than 3g so if you're seeing that it suggests your sim is 3g enabled.

Any other suggestions folk? Just find it mystifying why I can get 3G/H in some areas but not here at work when others can get a full 3G signal albeit on an Iphone. Ive spoken to 02 who are going to arrange a new handset but Im not sure this will resolve the issue

    also,

as far as i know, the desire (and all android phones) are still, currently unable to view BBC iplayer, so dont worry about being unable to watch it.

My reception has actually seemingly overall improved since getting the Desire on O2. HSPA reception in many places

Perhaps your APN settings are wrong?

I can get a H connection at home, but no data throughput.
    G works fine !

Drive about a mile away and get a H connection that works fine..

    At work my N95 8GB gets a full 3G, I get G on the desire !!

I have the same issue living in a strong 3G area. I have contacted HTC customer support and here's what we've said to each other so far:

Me: I cannot get 3G on my HTC Desire - I have never once seen the "3G" connection icon despite living and working in an area where other people on the same phone network (O2) get 3G all the time. This appears to be a handset-specific problem and a quick search on the internet reveals that many other people are experiencing the same problem. If I switch to WCDMA only I pick up "H", but this is no good if I move into an area where "H" isn't yet available and want to use "3G". On GSM/WCDMA auto, I can only get "G" or "E", never "3G". Do I have a faulty handset? My network provider seems to think so.

HTC: The WCDMA settings should give you 3G when H is not available. The issue you are having is most likely related to signal strength. If you don't get 3G when set to WCDMA only when you are in an area that has yet to receive HSXPA please get back to us so we can escalate this issue to see if it an issue with the software in our Desire devices or an isolated instance so it then can be rectified as soon as possible.

Me: Using WCDMA only, I can confirm that when I am in an area where I can't pick up HSXPA, the handset does not switch to 3G. Instead, I lose my connection altogether.

HTC: Thank you for the information, I will forward this on to the tech team and they will have a look at it And I will get back to you as soon as I have any further information.

are any of you using juice defender. I had this same problem and even with juice defender disabled my connection was erratic. I reset my phone to factory settings and didnt install that app and now all is well

No, at that point all communication from HTC online support ceased. I rang the UK HTC support number and they asked me to send the phone in for possible repair to a possibly damaged antenna, so I have.

If you look here, someone has come up with a theory that 3G stops working after the phone has been connected to WiFi. That could apply in my case so I'll be testing that when I get the phone back.

Nope, doesn't apply in my case.

Why are you so sure it's your phone that's the problem? I realise this is an Android forum, but I'm an iPhone user on O2 trying to find out why in about June 12,2011 my download speed on O2 has dropped from around 1.8 Mbps to circa 4 Kbps (virtually unusable). I suspect they've throttled down the network connection speeds to manage the load with available capacity. I've run many tests since that time and the speed has remained the same. Hope I'm wrong.

Is it still showing as 3g / HSDPA? be aware sometimes sims go faulty. Mine went down to 56Kb/s, swapped it out for a new O2 sim and now I get 3-4Mb/s
