    Hi all,

I'm hoping to get some advice, hopefully from someone who has the Desire Z, and an older or newer OTHER Desire.

I've got a Hero, which I love(d). My main issues with it are that it's not fast enough for me (I'm a heavy social network user/multi-tasker), and it does the random dying thing from time to time.

So anyways, I'm looking to get a Desire Z to replace it, primarily because of the physical keyboard. But I see that the processor speed is 800MHz, as opposed to the 1GHz Qualcomm that all the other 'cool cats' have :-(.

So my question is, does anyone have the Desire Z, AND another of the Desires or some other 1GHz phone, and is there much of a difference in performance. I don't want to compromise on speed, or have to deal with a lot of lag, but then I do want to have a physical KB if I can.

Actually, if you've used 2 or more of them, then you'll be able to help too! I'm just hoping to get some other opinions really.

I don't know why HTC decided to put in a smaller processor, it would have been a no-brainer "perfect phone" for me!!

    Thanks in advance!

get the desire Z if you really want a physical keyboard because it is your only HTC android choice really. in my opinion the Z is faster than the desire and not too much slower than the HD.

By "smaller" I assume you mean "less MHz"? If so then mere numbers are misleading.... the CPU in the Z is a generation (at least) ahead of that in the Desire so it's more efficient and the Adreno 205 GPU gives greatly improved graphics performance.

Btw, the 800MHz is an underclock; the MSM7230's native clock is 1GHz.

    Yea it seems so mate!

That's great news, cheers for that! I didn't realise the CPU was a generation ahead, just figured the numbers wouldn't lie. Feel more confident about getting one now.

And if 800MHz is (presumably out of the box) underclocked, how would I get it to run at native 1GHz? App or hack?

Both... root the handset and flash a custom kernel that supports the o/c (hack) then install SetCPU/Overclock Widget/CPUTuner (app) to actually do it.

Hie guys m new to thIs forum
Actually m in a same confusion as the OP. M looking for a device with good speed and no lags. I made my choice with desire z. But when i c desire s i feel like Z performs slower than S as the processor of Z is 800mhz.

So m in a deep confusion for wich phone to buy? Shud i go for Z or i shud look for S..
And wat abt lg o2.. How is it???

200MHz isn't going to make that much difference in reality. What's more attractive is the Desire S having Gingerbread (Android 2.3) and Sense 3.0. The Z may get Gingerbread but it won't see the lastest SenseUI.

    Desire S doesn't have Sense 3.0. It's on 2.1...

Yep I have Desire Z. Simply put it's the best damn phone I ever had...
It's pretty fast and responsive, it doesn't get laggy too often, but it does happen from time to time...
And weight isn't problem at least not for me, it have sturdy, quality feeling to it. Feels so reliable like it's built to last forever....
