Developer - which phones should I test on?

Hello all, and thanks for having me!

I'm developing my first Android app, and want to be sure that it runs well on a range of devices. It requires Android 2.1 or later.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S II, but obviously this is a very fast phone! I can afford two more devices for testing - what should I get? Ideally, I'd like:

- One mid-range device, preferably a common & popular one that's sold really well.

- One bottom-of-the-range device; slower processor, smaller screen, but still in mass usage.

I'll probably buy them second hand from eBay. This isn't an area I know anything about - thanks for the help!

Galaxy Y seems to be a very good seller in the low end area, while Defy in the mid range.
