I've read that it's best not to put apps to sleep or they won't receive notifications or updates. I went into settings and selected that option NOT to put apps to sleep. Then I go about my beeswax thinking things are good and fine. (fa-la-la-la-laaa) Next thing you know I pop into the sleeping apps folder (curiosity) and there are like 10 apps in there sleeping and I'm like WTF!?! I ticked the Do Not Sleep setting!!

I've no idea what a "do not sleep" setting is: is this some particular Samsung thing, or is it Samsung renaming the "exclude from battery optimisation" or "adaptive battery" settings (just because they are Samsung and like to rename everything)? This is an important question because if it is a Samsung-only thing then only someone with a Samsung is likely to know anything about it, whereas if it's a renamed standard option anyone with a recent phone might be able to help. If you don't know then telling us where it is in the settings might provide a clue.

I might add that stock Android does not include a "sleeping apps folder".

i do not remember the setting on the note 8 when i had it. i do not think i paid attention to it tbh. on my note 10+ under power management there is an option to put unused apps to sleep. there is also an option to list the apps that have been put to sleep. i'm assuming this is similar to the note 8. i currently have the option to put unused apps to sleep though i do not remember setting it up like that.

you may have some aggressive battery setting activated. check those settings.

    I will send a screenshot.

I turned mine off and yet it still puts them in that automatically for some reason.

I've been trying to figure out this whole saving battery thing for two weeks now. It's become obsessive for me. I don't know if it's me or if it's the new update that we just got. I've had to recharge my battery probably two times a day.

well it seems to be working according to the last screen shot.

what is your average day of usage?

i do not think this will help with better battery life. if anything putting apps to sleep will help. not putting apps to sleep means that they could run in the background and potentially cause a drain on your battery....though i think at best it is a very minimal drain.

But isn't it true that if to put them to sleep they will not receive updates?

    I will take a look.

I have adaptive power saving ticked. Should I untick it?

    I have added screenshots below.

Marctronixx have you ever heard of this site? https://dontkillmyapp.com/samsung

never heard of the site. skimmed the info they wrote about.

im using a note 10+ . i don't have any issues with apps being shut down. I have many apps installed but i only use about 10 or so apps often.

its possible the aggressive behavior of the note 8 battery management is causing your issue. tough to know over the internet, but i would again just look in your battery setting and make sure you don't have any battery saver options running.

also if you "close out" apps in the apps list section, those will go to sleep by the system, so if you plan to use them frequently , don't X them out. Android is very efficient at management memory, so let the OS do what it does.

I have put unused apps to sleep but i've never seen my phone actually put any to sleep. I have multiple apps that i haven't used in months too. I do know when my redbox app was in the sleep folder due to high battery drain, i still got updates from the play store and push notifications despite being in the sleep folder. Good Luck...

Depends on what you mean by updates. If you mean refreshing their data, then yes it's probably true. If you mean updates to the apps, unless Samsung have done something weird then no, it's not true. Disabling an app will block updates, but the app sleeping won't.

BTW I put "probably" in their because this looks like something Samsung-specific rather than a regular Android feature. At any rate it's not "adaptive battery", it's some additional setting that isn't present in Android itself (I run Android 10 on a Pixel, and there's nothing like that). It may just be a global toggle to exclude apps from battery optimisation, as opposed to the app-by-app setting that's there normally, or it may be something to do with Samsung's device management add-ons. If the latter then I'm afraid I know nothing about it.
