    Hey guys,

I was under the impression that since the DHD is quad-band, despite being purchased in Thailand I would be able to use 3G/4G , basically something faster than Edge when I came back to the U.S. Unfortunately this is not the case, could someone please explain why? And if there is any unofficial way to make it work, please pm it to me or at least a link. I have searched the internet but being a previous Symbian and iOS user , I am not at all familiar with the way Android phones and their various software iterations and custom firmwares function.

Thank you for the help in advance!

Alright! I don't actually have an answer about 3/4G or Edge... not really sure on that, but perhaps this will help - a full guide on rooting - you should be able to install a custom ROM, which may mean that your phone will work in the way you want it to

If El P's explination on rooting helps you, don't forget to thank him at the bottom of his post!

I'm pretty sure the DHD is NOT quad band. I thought it was only the next gen, the Inspire, that had 4g. Could be wrong, but that's my understanding of the ONLY difference between the DHD and Inspire.

I thought 4G related to the network speed and not the actual GSM banding?

HTC Desire HD - HTC - Products - Specification

Does the GSM bit down the bottom mean it's quad band?

    Network specs for DHD:
    Network 4

    Europe:

    • HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
    • GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
    Asia Pacific:

    • HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
    • GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

Network specs for Sensation (quad band phone):
    Network5

    HSPA/WCDMA:

    • Europe/Asia/T-Mobile US: 900/AWS/2100 MHz
    Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:

    • 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

The word 'Edge' seems to be the differentiating factor between the two models network capabilities. Note the DHD is not referred to as Quad band where the Sensation is.

    Cheers.
