Hello all. For the longest time I've been trying to figure out a solution for the horrible, almost nonexistent, 3g signal in my office causing my battery life to plummit on my Samsung Fascinate (there's no wifi here). I tried an app called Extended Controls that supposedly allowed me to toggle 3g on and off (presumably by editing the APN string), but it was spotty and would hang often. Today I came across the setting under wireless & networks called "dial up networking" that seems to be the perfect solution. It seems to cut off all data but still allows for calls and texts...exactly what I was looking for! Sort of like airplane mode except with calls. I expect this to extend my battery life incredibly, especially if I use it at work and while I sleep.
My question is, mainly out of curiosity, how is dial up networking intended to be used? I can't find any info on it in the manual or web search. All I could gather is that you're supposed to be able to use it as a dial up modem. I couldn't find any other settings other than checking it on and off.
