I'm just wondering whether anyone has noticed this on AF or if I'm just paranoid. I've noticed while reading various threads about android products, that suddenly a little known item or an item that has some negative press on the internet will suddenly be hailed as a great item or product by one or more posters in the thread... but they almost always seem to be new members with only 1-5 posts to their credit. Sounds kinda like a sales pitch by someone directly invested in the product to me. What do you think?

I won't get specific to the threads in question but I'm sure some of you may have noticed it or will now that you've read this.

Let me know what your thoughts are on the subject.

Yes.. I have noticed it too.

If it is something I want to get/do.. I normally give more credit to mods, guides, members with more thanks, members with more Posts.

Yes, I have noticed "buzz" that looks like it was contrived solely for promotional purposes. It's not nearly as bad as it is on LinkedIn, but after enduring LinkedIn for a while, the occasional things I see here do remind me of the member-ads that I've seen in other places.

I suppose that there may be some measure of "fanboi syndrome" (for lack of a better term), but it doesn't seem likely for products that are largely unknown. Maybe it is real enthusiasm. Probably not. If I was a marketing director *shudder*, I'd probably encourage something like that.

I think you are correct. Fortunately, the mods know a few or three things and at this watering hole, the spammers and scammers do not always have much success.

I recall seeing posts like "Hey guys, check out this web site. I just found it and I want to know if they are honest." Or sometimes they ask if the product they are posting represents a good deal or some such.

They are quite often new people that signed up just to spam the list. When I see such posts I immediately look at their posting history. Whenever I see a new person that immediately posts links to a product for sale, I choose to avoid that person altogether.

I know in my heart some posts are an attempt to sell something, but perhaps not, so I usually flag the post and offer the mods my thoughts. I do not want to accuse someone of spamming even though I know they are out there trying their best to do just that.

I leave it up to the mods to decide.

Some times the advertising is blatant and some times, not so much.

I sell crap. I would love to spam this list, but it will likely do no good, so I behave. I do not even post my URL in my sig on other lists and I have yet to post something for sale here.

Just learn to identify the spammers and if you feel they offer a good deal, FORGET THEM. Obviously, when a spammer arrives and posts something for sale, if the rules say no advertising, they should comply and it is often quite clear these people cannot be bothered to read the rules they agree to follow.

I think being able to follow the rules is vital and I simply avoid most posts.

God Bless Us One And All.
