Dim instead of sleep on Kitkat?

Device: Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1" Wifi
Version: 4.4.2

Hi there,

I am trying to set these devices to dim the screen instead of sleeping.

I have been able to do this when the device is charging by turning on "Stay Awake" in developer options which works perfectly, but only when charging.

Because I am running a kiosk app which requires internet connectivity all the time, I cannot use the daydream feature for this either.

Is there any way I can make the device dim the screen, but not sleep when the device is inactive and is not on a charger?
