I have read all I can about using the Inc overseas and am confused.
If the phone is switched to WiFi in a WiFi spot, can you use the phone? I have read that Verizon put some sort of restrictions on it, but I'm not savvy enough to understand it all.
My daughter is in the Coast Guard and we both have DInc's. She goes to places like StarBucks in other countries that offers WiFi and we would LOVE to be able to text each other with our phones. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

you cannot use the "phone" (or SMS since it uses cellular) over wifi in any country (for now). They may one day release an app like T-mobile has, but for now it doesn't exist. You both can download IM programs and just IM instead of text. Google Talk should be preloaded. That would work over wifi

I wouldn't say you can't use it in any other country--it really depends on which country you're talking about. CDMA is used throughout most of Asia. Definitely NOT in Europe. I'd do a check on Verizon's site to see where CDMA is used. You can also call Verizon to tell them where you're headed and they'll help you out.

I read that Verizon has un-abled Skype with Wi-Fi overseas. I'll check into Google Talk to see if that works M2M on WiFi.

I downloaded and used Fring using wifi in Egypt.
Fring uses Skype, Google Talk, SIP and more to make voip calls on the DInc.
I was video skyping with the US. Of course with the rear camera, my callers could see what I see and I could see them.

wifi will work anywhere but you can't make calls unless you roam on a CDMA network Verizon has a contract with. (don't do it, the rates are stupidly high.)

Verizon Skype is a special version and won't make calls over wifi but you can use Fring or some other alternative skype client.

You can also send SMS through Google Voice, although you can't make calls.

So the Dinc will work in other countries as long as they have a CDMA network?
