So i rooted my evo 4g about a year ago. For the last 4 months I have been running mokeeOS with no problems. The last week it has just randomly going and rebooting itself. well yesterday the worse happened. Im stuck in bootloading. The white htc evo 4g screen appears then just keeps restarting. It has been awhile and im a rookie at this stuff but I cant get out of this loop. When ever i select recovery it just reboots again. Im pretty sure I also may have cleared all data even on my SD card. Please tell me I havent bricked my phone or do not have one now.

    Phone says

will reward if someone can get me up and running again

    Welcome boiler!
Well, as these phones age, the first thing that comes to mind is, how old is your battery?
I also assume it says "Unlocked" at the top of the bootloader screen?
I think the first thing to try, is to get a recovery installed...we can do that one of 2 ways...actually 3 but I like the PC36IMG method or the adb method.

Do you have adb installed? (on your computer) :)

I have not replaced the battery since I purchased this phone, but it has never given me problems before. You are correct it does display unlocked above the bootloader screen. I am installing adb now

Do you have a folder named "platform-tools" and in that folder there are at least 3 files named:

    Code (Text):
    1. fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
From the command line in the android tools folder with your phone hooked up to USB and you should be good to go.

If you can't boot into recovery after a successful recovery installation, I'd try an RUU. If that fails, you may be in the bootloop of death my friend. :(

    1. from the android folder right click while holding down shift and select open command prompt here.
    2. copy rxpert's fastboot command
    [HIGH]fastboot flash recovery recovery.img[/HIGH]
    3. paste it into the command window.

this should install recovery for you.

I don't think he has a folder named "Android" as he downloaded adb from somewhere else.
He has a folder within the adb named "platform-tools" and I had him drop the recovery image file into that.
So I would surmise he would open a command prompt at the "platform-tools" folder?

ok got it easier to create a folder and call it android and move the necessary files there, but where ever the recovery.img is is where you want to open the command window at.

okay the command prompt states that recovery has been sent and finished. now what?

yep you will need a custom rom on the sd card and then flash it. make sure that you wipe everything except for the sd card first, however.

im pretty sure my friend already wiped the SD card when he was attempting to fix it. Im sorry im a rookie but do you recommend a very stable ROM? and how do i get the ROM onto the phone now?
  17. ocnbrze

    ocnbrze DON'T PANIC!!!!!!!!!

    1. ok go here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html and go to the staff picks. i would try mikg3.11 it is very stable and very similar to stock, but it is soooooo much better. download the full wipe version.

    2. now in recovery there is a usb-ms toggle. hook up your phone via usb and then select that option.

    3. you should have access to your card. move the rom file over to the sd card.

    4. go back to the main menu and wipe everything but the sd card

    5. flash the rom

and reboot and you should hopefully be golden.

okay just one last question and im sorry for bothering you.. but im used to going to the computer file on my computer and finding my phone mounted as a hard disk and moving the ROM in that manner... how do I accomplish that now?
  19. ocnbrze

    ocnbrze DON'T PANIC!!!!!!!!!

you can mount the sd card as i describe in step 2 straight from recovery. it is a very convenient feature of recovery. i use this all the time, since i'm going to be in recovery anyways to flash my rom. plus sometimes if you can't get into the sd card for whatever reason, usually you can mount it in recovery most of those times.

I have an EVO 4G also in bootloop, followed all the instructions & no JOY.
... except instead of "flashing" the rom, renamed it pc36img.zip and put it
    root directory of sd card.
obviously not correct since it didn't work
... how do I flash the ROM ??
    Thanks, appreciate any help.

Hi rick! You need to put the room zip on your sd card and flash it from recovery. Do not unzip it or rename it. Also wipe everything except the sd card. And wipe it 3 times. :) I repeat, don't wipe the sd card. Then flash

Edit: wiping done in recovery also
