Help Direct Dialing 911

I have a HTC Droid Eris.
I want to be able to have a direct dial icon/button thing for 911. But I can't add a direct dial shortcut unless it's a person in my contacts and it won't let me add emergency numbers to my contacts. How do I get around this? You already waste time unlocking your screen, let alone tapping phone, punching in the numbers and pressing call.

I have this one, it also sends your gps location when you call. I honestly don't think its any faster than dialing 911 but at least they will know where you are.
