Disable multimedia station/dock app?

I have the multimedia station for my Droid, and *really* want it to NOT launch the dock application when it's plugged in. I'm doing a lot of software development with the device at the moment, and like the dock because it puts the phone upright and saves wear on the micro-USB connector. But I'm putting it in the dock and removing it quite frequently. All of the apps I've seen to change docking behavior require you to spec an app.

Half tempted to try to write something. :D

If you have a rooted DROID, you can disable the dock app simply by changing the app's name. In the /system/app directory ... I changed the name from dock.apk to dock.bak. Tada! No more silly dock app.

Thanks for the tip, but I haven't rooted it yet. I need to wait until I at least have another stock device to test apps on.

    Have you root yet?

I have written an App to do this seamlessly, but currently tested on Milestone only.

Just download "Dock Nothingness" from the Android Market. It's free. Works like a charm.

The OP said "All of the apps I've seen to change docking behavior require you to spec an app."

Regretfully, the OP didn't root yet........so he can't use my "No Dock" app to do this in a perfect way......

Anyway, No Dock is at 0.9a now, with 3 phones tested and worked. Also a developer site is available to provide more details: No Dock v0.9a - Android Development

A free version will be available soon, thanks to the buyers and big donor(Andrew) for supporting it!

Update about No Dock v0.11.3a, it should supports Droid's kernel now.
