I haven't been able to find a good answer to this one. Ok, I've locked down my phone with Smart Applock so that a password is required to install new apps on the phone. However, I would like to prevent installs from being done "remotely" (signing on to google play on a computer with my google password and installing from there). Is there a way to do this?

Yes, just don't install remotely. If someone else is doing it to you, change your Google password. (It doesn't matter what triggers the Play store to send an app to your phone, the phone can't tell the difference.)

there used to be broadcast receivers that you could disable to block this, but I found this pathetic thread while seeking the same answer to the question you asked. You'd think more people besides the ass with the completely unhelpful comment would be interested in a way to block a security threat like this.

Actually, changing the password for Play is the best (only???) solution. It probably isn't a security threat to remotely install the apps. IIRC newly installed apps cannot run on their own until you open them on the phone for the first time.

Attacking someone for something they said seven months ago.... He was right though, only way for this to happen is if someone has your Google credentials, and if they did installing apps remotely for the shits and giggles is hardly something they would do.
