Help Disable screen flashing on when receiving a text.

I've been searching the internets but couldn't find any solutions. Right now I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4. When I receive a text message, the phone flashes on. I've gone through settings and tested everything I could find along with things others have suggested. Turning off the notifications in the LED settings, turning off notifications for text, etc... From what i've been reading, Sprint users with a S4 are able to set it to not flash on when receiving a text. Is this just a phone brand thing or am I missing something else?

assuming you are using the stock messaging program? is there a check mark next to preview message in header and on lock screen underneath the notifications menu?
