Hello, I'm new here and just got a Galaxy S5 coming from an iPhone. Just wanted to ask if there was a way or app that will disable vibration alerts for certain apps like instagram, Facebook but have them just appear in my notification bar only. My phone just keeps vibration every time someone likes a photo of mine or starts to follow me. I've searched everywhere for this specific answer and can't find anything that will fit my question. Many thanks

In most Android apps, unlike IOS, there will be a menu within the App that should allow you to select/deselect vibrate, ring, and ring tone for that App only. Usually Apps will have the 3 vertical dot menu in the upper right hand corner of the screen. For older apps that don't have the 3 dot menu access mentioned above, push and hold the soft button located to the left of the home button on the S5. This will bring up the App's menu.

Coming from an iPhone, you are probably used to going back to "Settings" whenever you want to change something about a specific app. Android's approach to this makes much more sense, as most apps have their settings menu within each app.

I tried to do this but on this phone the left soft key is the multitask Windows where I can close and see all the apps running

I am new to this phone also. If you go to settings, sound, vibration intensity you can drag the slider for notifications all the way to the left to turn it off. Maybe that is what you want as it will turn the vibration sound off for the alert I am thinking. Mary

Will this turn it off for calls too? I still want it to vibrate for messages and calls just not those apps, I wonder if there's an app that will do that. Its gotten annoying were it vibrates every time someone likes my picture on instagram

Do you see the other one there, incoming call. I would think if you leave incoming call all the way up and turn notifications all the way down, that would do what you want in the vibration intensity settings. Sorry that is all I could come up with as I am still learning too. All you can do is try it and see what happens. Mary

Also when you say messages if you are using the stock Samsung messaging app click the 3 dots in the upper right then settings then under notifications you can turn it on and there is a vibrate option in there. I am not sure though if that will still come through with notification vibrations off. Too many settings on this phone for everything I guess. Mary

I see that but my issue is that it'll also lower the vibration on text messages, but I'll give it a try and see how that works, for now I have just emailed instagram in hopes they listen to my request to add that. I was able to find that option on Facebook so it is possible but has to be done from within the app, I just wondered since the app didn't have it in the settings if there was an app that would do it regardless

Ok I tested something by calling my phone. I turned on vibrate when ringing and left intensity all the way up for incoming call so it rang and vibrated. Then with vibrate when ringing on I turned the intensity setting all the way down for incoming call and the phone rang but didn't vibrate so I am thinking as long as you have the vibrate when ringing set to on and the intensity for incoming call all the way up and the intensity for notifications all the way down that would do it but it's late and I may not be thinking straight but try that. Mary

True, but if you press and hold that button, it will bring up the specific app's menu (if the app has one)
