So I just downloaded an app that quickly shows battery life, SD space, and disc space. It says I have used 628 of 748 mb on the disc. I thought the phone had an internal memory of 8gb.

It's got a separate 8 gb of space that can't currently be used for apps. 8gb minus whatever the OS etc takes up, so I think it's 6 something in the end.

Your question however directly brings up something I'm still curious about and maybe it's already been answered a million times....

The phone is reported to have 512 ram / 512 rom

Why then is the rom reported at 748 mb? Mine says this as well....

If what you're talking about is the "Mini Info Widget", I'd like to point out that the green bar represents the remaining space on the disc. I was initially confused as well, until I looked at the other numbers and realized that I was mistaken. For proof positive check in:
Menu>Settings>SD Card and Phone Storage and look at the info there.

If you're not talking about this widget, then I'm sorry for doubting your assertion.

Yeah I checked the settings and saw the 'real' storage.

So how can you save things onto the phone's internal memory.

And what exactly is this disc space used for? I find it kind of weird that its almost full after only two weeks of use.
