    I have now used Incredible S for a few days. I will say that the battery seems to last a working day for me, though not with heavy use so far. Data access is constantly on for me.

    I was trying to understand its battery draining characteristics by looking at the information about Battery use in Settings.

    I see that Display consumes about 70% and Locations 20% and then everything else.

    My phone settings are - display brightness is automatic, screen timeout 1 minute, Locations off for both phone network and GPS, Mobile data network ON, Background data ON, Auto sync ON (I have couple of Gmail account, 1 facebook, 1 Hotmail), Wifi coverage is available for almost 50% of the day.

    Most battery saving tips ask you to leave Android to manage screen brightness level automatically. Probably it is with some reason - in order to adjust to ambient light automatically.

    But then why is Display consuming 70%? I used to think that SLCD will consume less power (relatively, of course) but was surprized to see display as major power consumer still.

    I also note that at Automatic brightness control, the brightness level is quite bright, bringing out the beautiful SLCD display. I can definitely do with less brightness, but to manually adjust it will lose the ambient light sensing feature.

    Is there a way to reduce the brightness even with Automatic control?

    The first few days I had my S the battery would NOT last even a full day with normal usage, I phoned in and they said give your battery a few charge cycles and that should work. I followed that advice and it has been much better now (6 days) as compared to the first few.. I turn of gps sattelites, and i reduce the screen brightness almost to the minimum and i still find that more than enough, you would be surprised how much battery the screen brightess eats up, give that a try and let me know how you turned out..

    Is is recommended to keep screen brightness to automatic adjustment?
    Initially I didn't use the automatic brightness feature and kept the screen brightness to a minimum. But the screen almost always drained 70% the battery. I then purchased Juice defender ultimate and selected the brightness and dimmer mode control feature to manage the brightness automatically. I am still getting a hang of the multiple options available in this application but the stats still show that the screen eats out 70% of the battery.

    Yes you can purchase Juice defender Ultimate to create a response curve for maximum and minimum levels. You can go up to a minimum screen brightness of -40 % and a maximum of 150%. But I am still not very sure as to how much is this helping. The application tells me that it has increased my battery life by 1.6 times but it doesn't show a detailed breakup of each battery eating component.

    Can someone help us out here?

    what Siddd said, except get juice defender beta, not ultimate.

    ultimate didn't work on my IS a couple of weeks ago, but the beta works 100% and has all the same (if not more) features - plus its free.

    i'd love to know how the person above manages to get 6 days from it though, it must literally not be moved at all.... most basic phones without colour screens etc can't even manage that with normal use.

    I had first tried Beta which increased the battery life by 1.6 to 1.7 times with very limited set of options. I then decided to buy the ultimate version as it opened up other options like advanced profile which were inaccessible in the Beta. Although I haven't got a chance to explore all options, I would agree that its not a great purchase as the battery life didn't increase any further with these advance features enabled. May be because the fully equipped application itself eats the battery.. Or I am doing something wrong.

    @DJBenny1: I have been using the ultimate for more than 2 weeks now and didnt face compatibility issues. And in the beta, you wont get screen brightness and other advance control options.

    I get a full day and a half with my Incredible S which is more than what I expect with a smartphone. I also keep the following switched on all of the time:

    * WiFi
    * GPS
    * Bluetooth
    * 3G
    * Data Sync/Push Email
    * Brightness set to manual (about 30%)

    I have no intention of switching off the above services, otherwise what is the point in having a smartphone.

    @djbenny1 I wasnt saying I got 6 days of use out of a single charge, I was saying that after 6 days of charge cycles the battery has gotten much stronger and lasts much longer compared to the first 2.. And juice defender is a pretty good app and it does work, the only thing that cause problems for me with it is on some chat apps your incoming messages wont be sent to you unless you unlock the screen because of juice defender turning off your data.. other than that yes it works just like its supposed to.
