I know that Apple Devices dont need the protectors since they are actual glasses(has higher hardness than steel).

but i was wondering if i need one for Droid Bionics. Some phones dont use glasses like SGSII(has lower yield strength). So i was wondering if i am going to need a screen protector for Droid Bionic

I would hope they would have at least Gorilla Glass/Higher on the Bionic.

If this is the case then no, no screen needed.

While i have not seen stress/strain data on gorilla glass, i am pretty sure that it isnt as scratch resistant as actual glasses(used in Ipad)

Gorilla glass is extremely shatter resistant though while glass can be easily shattered.

I have my D1 here beside me. I can key the screen as much as I want and it wont have one scratch on it. Look up videos on youtube of the torture tests people put its screen to. Gorilla Glass is amazing.

My phone has skidded across gravel and not scratched a single time.

I know without a doubt Gorilla Glass is amazing and will stand by it.

Gorilla Glass is astonishingly scratch resistant. It's not, however, shatterproof. Drop it from 4' on it's screen to the asphalt below, and yes, it will crack.

hmm.... maybe ive heard wrong, but i thought gorrila glass is one that is extremely flexible(has higher yield strain but less stress)

that usually means less scratch resistant and more shatter resistant(still can shatter easily though just comparison against glass)

Gorilla Glass Scratch Test - YouTube

I think you got lucky that it didnt get any scratches.... glass and gorrila glass both have lower hardness than rocks.

A lot of us here are current or former OG Droid owners. Gorilla Glass is extremely scratch resistant. I won't say scratch proof, but it's darn near close. However, I was able to crack my screen. Even when I did, though, it didn't shatter and was still usable.

My DROID is currently 2 1months old. Not a scratch on it - I used a screen protector on the phone for all of 3 weeks. After that, it's been nothing but au naturale, or as we say, in the buff.....

I really hope that it does use Gorilla Glass. It's essentially the best glass that any phone manufacturer can get because of it's amazing scratch resistance. I had the iPhone 4 for a couple of months (2 of them) and they both were prone to scratches, albeit a few. I never got one little scratch on my Droid X, which I had for 7 months, and I believe that I treated my Droid X worse since I felt like it was built like a tank.

You need to get your apple fanboi and turn it down a notch. If Bionic continues with Moto's trend of using Gorilla Glass you will NOT need a screen protector.

I have taken my Dx and slid it down pavement, dropped it on concrete, and stepped on it. There is not 1 scratch on the glass.

(In fact I'm pretty sure both companies use glass made by the same company).

Basically if you want a screen protector get it, but you're more likely to scratch the casing than the screen.

OG Droid did not (to my knowledge) have Gorilla Glass.

    It does.

Gorilla protects DROID's glass screen from breakage

And I can attest to the scratch-proof of it. The way I've treated it, it shouldn't have a screen at all. But it's pristine.

I will still put a protection screen even with Gorilla Glass on it. That is just me.

My family has both the iPhone 4 and Droid X. X has Gorilla glass, 4 has 'proprietary' glass similar to Gorilla. While both are very scratch resistant, both can be scratched without dropping them or without something drastic happening. The 4 which is taken care of like a Rolex has a couple fine/small scratches after 2 months unprotected. Same goes for the X. If you are picky about your screen and scratches, put on protection. Just my 2c.

I am not an apple fanboy... I dislike apple for their BS lawsuits and such., but you need to get your android fanboi insecurity out of here

I have ghost armour on my OG droid, and it looks horrible with pocks and scratches on it. I think i probably shouldve just gone naked.

That is the downside. Any screen protector will degrade the clarity. It's just up to you.

Agreed. I had ghost armor too, and finally just got rid of it after a couple of weeks. Never had any problems with the screen naked.

My boss has had the X since it's debut. Nothing on the screen. It has about 50 1/2" long scratches on it and has never been dropped. All from being in the car/pocket. Just saying.

As mentioned before - DROID (original) since drop day - that would be 6 Nov 2009.

At the risk of beating a long-dead horse, another longtime rough-handled OG Droid user here with nary a scratch. GG definitely lives up to its billing. IMO, a screen protector adds no benefit.

ANY screen can get scratched. Screen protectors are cheap and easily replaced when they get too scratched up. I'm all for manliness and toughness, but I'm not so arrogant as to think my 500 dollar toy make of plastic and glass is invincible. Yes Mr. Salesman I'll be taking two packs of screen protectors and a case, Thanks!

Where are you getting machismo and arrogance? We're just telling you that they serve no purpose.

By your own admission, the protectors get all scratched up. Why would you put something that gets scratched on top of something that really doesn't?
