do you lose your phone numbers when updating to 2.1?

    If they're google contacts, then no. If they're phone contacts, then yes. I don't know of an app that backs up phone contacts. I am almost sure that there is one that will back them up to your sd card though...

    With ROOTING there are more options and ability to save the phones settings, such as contacts.

    Without rooting, I did it using MS Outlook, I don't really use the program, but using it in conjunction with HTC Sync will store and then allow you to put those contacts back onto the phone or a new phone in the event that happens.

    A simple google sync will sync all your contacts. Install updates, sign in to google, all your contacts are there.
