This isn't a question about whether it will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich, this is more of do you think the phone can handle it. I have heard reports that Ice Cream Sandwich will only run relatively well on devices with a 1GHz single-core processor and up.

Ice Cream Sandwich is 2.4. 3.0 is Honeycomb, for tablets.

I'm not seeing anything that would indicate that.

So...as to the actual question being asked...will the Optimus V be able to run Android 4.0?

To finally answer this. Yes, the Optimus V is capable of running ICS and there is a ICS ROM to prove that it can handle it. [ROM][ALPHA] quattrimus CM9 (ICS) - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

A thanks would be nice. :)

The OP's question was can it run on the Optimus V, not where's the link. ;)

    Thanks again!

Yes. There's no indication on the official Android development site that it won't.

I flashed Quattrimus ICS on my OpV earlier this morning just out of total curiosity. Other than a few bugs here and there that the dev needs to polish up, it ran just fine and looked pretty darn sexy.

I'm very much looking forward to Jerry's version of ICS. It's so gonna rock!

Yes, it is. He let me play with a very early alpha of BACKsideICS, it was shiny.

Can some of you guys comment on how close we are to having a stable ICS for Optimus V ROM that a non-techie will be able to get installed by carefully reading and blindly following instructions?

I bought my Optimus V right when VM first started selling them. I eventually followed instructions someone on this forum posted about rooting the phone and using Link2SD to transfer stuff to the SD card when I began having problems with the internal memory filling up. Naturally, that led to reading about, and being tempted by, custom ROMs, but I was never quite able to overcome the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" voice in my head, so I still have the stock 2.2.1.

Still thinking about updating to something, but don't know if it would make more sense at this point to just wait a little longer for ICS, versus going with an existing 2.3 ROM.

    Thoughts/suggestions?

I would say flash Jerry's BACKside ROM. I, like you, was skeptical about flashing a custom ROM at first but now that I have done it I couldn't imagine going back to stock. The ICS ROM is still probably quite a ways from being 100% stable.

Don is right. All the ics Roms for the v are alpha quality right now, but BACKside is easily one of the most popular Roms out there for the v.

I was in the same boat as you until a few weeks ago, and took the plunge with rooting. Go for Jerry's ROM. It rocks! And you will be running through the fields of daisies, hand in hand with your OV, happy with the freedom that BackSide has given you.

Well, I don't know about fields of daisies, but I finally took the plunge and got the BACKside ROM installed. Seems to be working fine. Thanks to JerryScript for the ROM and the Green Recovery, benslgdroid and MacFett for the tutorials on Link2SD, Whyzor for the Simplified Root + Recovery + Custom ROM thread, and all the people who have contributed to the discussions. :shakehands:

ICS alpha9 isn't too bad. I like it a lot. Only two problems I've come across, so far(having had it for the past few hours) is 1) there is no live preview for pictures. However, you can still take pictures. There's just no view of them before you take it. I believe that is supposed to be fixed very soon (like within the next couple of days), and 2) I haven't been able to get adb debug or usb connection to work. I'm not sure if that could be just something I'm doing wrong or what. and finally, 3) The voice search doesn't work.
As said earlier, it is just an alpha version, so of course it will have some bugs, but overall, I think it's coming along very nicely. 3g, wifi, sms, mms, calling, they all work for me. Freaking sick interface, and the browser that it comes with is really neat too. I like it a lot actually, and I'm willing to overlook the minor bugs that it has (especially as it is continuously being developed) I'd encourage you to try out ICS, it's really pretty sweet.

I've alpha tested five different builds of ICS for four different devs, and I can tell you that each of them has quirks. Each of them were also rather impressive in terms of speed. We can reasonably expect the beta Roms to well outperform current Gingerbread based Roms. We're close, I know it! Now the question will then become what will each dev do to differentiate themselves from one another...
    Exciting stuff!:D

Yes, he had me test the auto-reinstall feature of the Play store. Basically, in ICS the Rom can be configured so when you sign in to your Google account the Play store will start downloading and installing your missing apps. Imagine signing in on a clean install and within ten minutes all your apps are ready and waiting for you, all without user input. Pretty shiny, if you ask me. :D
