I'm just trying to get some feed back on the application - Handcent SMS.

The reviews on the market show a lot of problems and force closes.

    Thanks! :)

    Thanks for input.

I'm actually starting to get force closes on my stock sms so I'm looking for something else.

No, I tried it but it didn't work with Google Voice, unfortunately. Will definitely use it if they ever add in proper Google Voice integration.

I've tried both Handcent and ChompSMS and both times I've just reverted to the default Messages application that came with the phone. I liked the custom vibrate function that ChompSMS has but really didn't see any other benefit for myself in using it.

I would use it if it supported my Google Voice number and not only my carrier's number.

This. I've been using swype for 20 minutes now and I'm already typing so much faster than I was before. My god what an amazing app. Oh and Handcent is awesome too :)

I like ChompSMS a lot better. It has a cleaner design and when you change the look of one conversation, you change all. I couldn't find that with Handcent and that annoyed the hell out of me having to try to make every single conversation look the same.

I also use ChompSMS, but that's just because I prefer the UI design. They both have free versions (Chomp has ads, not sure about handcent), so I'd suggest downloading both and using them a bit, and seeing which one you like better.

tried handscent - too many fragmented options. very confusing ui (for me at least). went back to stock.

If you change the layout/theme of your conversations from the Conversation List, then you change all the conversations. If you change the layout from within a conversation itself, then you only change the one conversation. Changing a specific conversation overrides the global.

I use it and swear by it. Would never use anything else. No problems either.

I have never used ChompSMS but have had Handcent since day 2 of my phone and love it. The customization totally draws me to it.

I really like Handcent. However, I noticed a problem with it where if you have text pop ups on, and receive a text message while your phone is asleep, the incoming text will awaken your phone and not fall back asleep again until you close the popup message. With popups disabled, I dont have this problem anymore

I've been using Handcent since I first got the Droid. I think I've only used the stock messenger app less than 5 times between the Eris, Droid and Incredible. Yes, I've owned all 3.

I use Handcent, but I'm not 100% happy with it. It has it's random annoyances! Like when your phone is asleep and you get a message, if you just reply off the popup you can't use the sideways keyboard.

Had it but uninstalled it. It seemed to lag my phone a bit. Did not care for the pop ups. Also, I was unable to set it as my default text messaging app. Uninstalled it and have not looked back.

I was using it but after the last update I was no longer able to send pictures kept telling me too large if a file to send then it would force close. No problem with HTC stock app.

Thanks for all of your input. I guess there are a couple complaints regarding Google voice and ATT friends not getting texts and a couple force closes. Other than that sounds like the majority loves it. I'll be trying out.

Can you use chomp and handcent or is it important to have one sms app installed at a time?

I tried doing that. It only changed some of my messages. It seems as though if change anything within the conversation itself, it stays that way. I installed Handcent again and overall... I like the look of ChompSMS a little more.

I had Handcent and liked it okay. I was having issues with picture messaging though. I'm now using Chomp and think I like it better. It seems cleaner and MMS works with no issues.
