I'm nit exactly sure how to through the cm7 settings, but I think if you get the app "adjbrightness" from the market. You can do that

Settings-cyanogenmod settings-display-automatic backlight- (check use custom)-edit other levels
Make your changes, don't forget to hit Save & Apply before exiting.

Ah, ok... Those are ranges of room light levels (for lack of better term) between which the screen and button levels you set will be used.

Look at the top of the screen to see the current room light levels.

The RAW is basically what the light sensor is picking up.
The FILTERED is the light level that actually determines which screen/button brightness is used. It is "filtered" by the software (settings on the menu items on previous menus) to (for escape) slowly change the light level, or average it so that sudden, short shifts in light hitting the sensor don't make the screen brightness constantly jump up and down every time you tilt the screen slightly.

I think if you move around your room and watch the RAW vs FILTERED levels you'll get it.

Damn, I hope that makes sense!
Also hope I explained it correctly!
