Does google need to be held accountable?

well i find it hard to believe that so many people feel mislead and somehow come to the conclusion more was to be incorporated then what is what is present now,, and even what the future holds... how could so many come to this conclusion on there own,,,

Because too many people are assuming for whatever reasons, then telling other people their assumptions, therefore this leads people to believe that it has been officially announced by SE when in fact it hasn't. For example, when Sony mistakenly advertised the Xperia with multi-touch, people started a bit of Chinese whispers, which resulted in a lot of people to believe SE was implementing multi-touch soon. Also, when they said multi-touch was being considered for the future, alot of people assumed that SE said it was being implemented in the future, but consideration is a completely different thing.

Like I said last night.... A wise man once said "We must never assume that which is incapable of proof" ~ George Henry Lewes

The thing with that cubz is that 99% of the people who get phones go with what they are told in the shops, you can look for reviews but most will be glowing reports from biased folk who will give a glowing review to ensure they keep manufactures in good steed.

Read through most of the independant tech blog sites for reviews and most will be biased as if it is too damning then said company may not allow their products to be reviewed by them again. I know this happens with every product and commercialism (I kite and there is a kite maker who's kites are well known to fall apart in flight, yet they get great reviews in the mags and people who are trying to get their kites warranted are being warned that if they post about it on kite forums they will NOT get any help!)

So the general public are not all that clued up when it comes to the minor details and lets be honest 90% of complaints are nothing to do with what ver we are running but the bugs that are there.

I dont think I'm stupid in anyway but I feel deceived by SE but I got the phone expecting 2.1 in late Q4 but after seeing what SE did to the 1.6 OS I dont see why they did not just jump to 2.2?

I have been saying on here since I got the phone that there is very little between SE 1.6 and stock 2.1 so I'm not even bothered about the update and doubt very much that I will go to 2.1 and will just stick with my rooted 1.6 that does everything I need from 2.1 and 2.2 apart from Flash Player as it would be nice to watch the gadget show in the morning.

The mobile phone has replaced the news paper for morning toilet reading and although I can watch BBC I would like other media too.

I totally agree with you, but I must say, if the shops sales people are misleading people, and reviews or what not, are misleading people, this is in no way SE's fault.

well it must be more,, because i dont think of a product or company that has brought out so much mass dissatisfaction,, and most of the blame has to be placed on SE handling of the situation,,,
and i still believe google is watching this,,,imho

The only reason people are so dissatisfied is because the update hasn't come out yet - look around how many people are whining and complaining that we don't have 2.1 yet - or 2.2 confirmed - or that its unlikely that 3.0 will be on the X10

Like i said - impatience

In my opinion, Google should be able to let any manufacturer do what they want with the OS, then the consumer can decide whether they want to purchase it or not. If someone buys the phone knowing what the OS is like, then they're obviously happy with what they get. But too many people assume, then blame SE, or even Google for that matter, when in fact it is only themselves who are to blame.

Which is why you CANNOT involve Google in this debate because it is entirely up to SONY what OS to put on it - the only reason you hear Android mentioned in these complaints is simply because it is the OS - its not giving Android a bad name, and those that draw the conclusion from the posts and blogs should really read closely - nobody is saying that the 1.6 system is at fault, more that SONY was at fault to launch with 1.6 (which was impossible to change due to the fact that 2.x was launched midway through development - and as stated above Sony wouldn't delay X10 launch to change things

well i find it hard to believe that so many people feel mislead and somehow come to the conclusion more was to be incorporated then what is what is present now,, and even what the future holds... how could so many come to this conclusion on there own,,,

Again, how have we been mislead - i posted all the truths about X10 and 2.1 upgrade earlier - all of which have been accurate since the start - in my profession i AM privvy to the information that i have quoted and have known of the X10 and followed it since its announcement (no i don't work for or affiliated with SE)

Yes users have issues with their X10 - but look on the HTC forum's etc - so do they, and they should bring Google in to play - NO

But that brings another debate - is 2.1 SOOOOO much better than 1.6 - probably not

But after we do get updated to 2.1 - i reckon about 50% minimum will stop complaining about the phone - because thats all they want - the latest firmware

"and maybe a delay doesnt bother you,, but it does me extremely as i want and need skype on my phone"

which by the sounds of it was Northernmale's gripe with the phone anyway not running 2.1 - simply to use skype

To be honest, I don't think the complaints will stop at 2.1. People will start complaining about 2.2, then when/if 2.2 gets released, they will start moaning about v3, it's a never ending story for all those complainers out there, they will never be happy. I don't think alot of people will be happy, unless they get the latest version of Android as soon as, or not long after, it is released by Google.

Anyway, this debate will never end either, everyone has there own opinion and I understand that. So let's just leave it at that

True but I had real reservations on getting the X10 as it is SE and they have been very bad for supporting their last few phones after release the Satio being the worst.

But reading back through SE blogs then there was a lot of hear say released by them that has never come true. My old LG KC910 has a better camera, video and screen res than the X10 and I think it's the under spec'ing that has got peoples backs up.

But as it stands and back on topic.

Android should have clear rules on what minimums a certain phone should have inside it, just like a PC/laptop. Almost everyone knows what spec's a low end, medium and high end PC/laptop will be and we all accept that XP/Vista/7 will run faster/slower on each unit, why not have a similar guide for phones?

I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy Portal and I would call it a phone yet it runs 2.1 now with my X10 it runs a rooted 1.6 yet I would call it a mini tablet that makes calls. And that for me is down to the CPU and screen more than any skins that the manufacturers have implemented.

due to delays is why i dont have 2.1 which would allow skype,, yes is aggravating to me,,and its not like 2.1 was just released,

has SE fixed known issues NO,,

and thats good that you dont see it as a google problem,, and it isnt a problem with the google OS,, but from a marketing standpoint im pretty positive google is not happy how this has played out,, no matter who is right or wrong,,

so if you could actually talk to someone at google they would be the first to tell you they have no control.. but if you asked them if they are happy with the turn of events,, they will say no,,,\

anyhow i have a new phone coming, plus my carrier didnt want old phone back. so I will enjoy how thid all plays out,,,

LOL! Kite flying :D

Anyway, I'm happy with my X10, many others are not, but that's just the way it is, and nothing can really be done about it at the moment.

To be honest, I would love to have 2.2 and would be devastated if they announced that the Xperia would never get 2.2, because it's a high-end phone, with a low-end OS, and it would be very disappointing if we could never get 2.2. But although I would be gutted, I would still cope with 2.1

Will second that - the only thing i use stock on my phone is Email - (didn't like mail droid but still looking) everything else is a downloaded app that will run just fine on 2.1 (only spent about

So let me get this right!

Skype doesn't work on 1.6?

If so how come it was pre-installed on my X10 from 3?

@ cubz, nothing wrong with kite flying :D Plus I teach it so the lack of wind has cost me money today :(

Skype is actually not supported on Android 1.6, why 3 has it pre-installed is a mystery...very strange

The OFFICIAL skype for android blog (HERE Skype - The Big Blog - Skype now available for Android phones) states it requires 2.1

i would assume that with 3 being one of the major "internet networks" that they've maybe specially developed that just for their firmware ??

Thanks for the info - thought it might look better than what i have set on Beautiful Widget but her who must be obeyed (till she's asleep or not here) says the one on my phone now looks better

Then proceeded to complain that we haven't looked into customising her X10 mini

But both "Beautiful Widget" and "Weather & Toggle Widget" are easily worth the $2.00 each

If you can remember the call widget one that be great - at the minute i have mecontacts - little temperamental so looking for possible replacements

I love the Weather & Toggle widget, well worth the price, but i'm looking for a smaller alternative, takes up to much space imo lol

A little off-topic here but funny little story...I purchased 'ROM Manager' for my Xperia X10 when I first got the phone, then remembered I couldn't use it on my Xperia. I was not annoyed about paying for something I couldn't use, but found it quite hilarious that for some odd reason, I purchased the app knowing the Xperia X10 couldn't run customized ROMs. I still find it very funny now :D

Can never use too much space - i have a full 4x4 on 1 page just for my music app - mainly 'cause the widgets means i don't have to open the app itself

and i think on my 5 screens i am now full up - need to extend to 7 screens i think lol

It's not that, its because I prefer all my main things on the main home screen, I very rarely use the others

ive been selling mobile phones for 7 years now and the bottom line is the vast majority of people taking phones on their contract havent got a bloody clue what the operating system is, who makes it or can it be updated.

Even with android 95% of the people looking at the phone are only interested in one thing. Can it do facebook!

Of course there are some people, like the people that come to forums, that look into the geek/technology aspect of the phone but dont confuse that with the vast majority of people that dont know and dont care.

And as for skype i had that on my old htc hero running 1.5
