Help does it always record in HD?

Just curious, does the phone ALWAYS record in hd or do u have to activate the setting somehow?

By default, it was set to High Definition (720p) for me but in Camera Settings > Video resolution, it offers Large (D1), Medium (VGA), and Small (QVGA) as well.
