Can I just say a contact name and the phone would dial it for me? This would help a lot than scroling all of your contacts.

For me, S Voice search is not very accurate, but it does "work" if you can call it that.

My Contacts list is almost 400+ and scrolling is not an option.
I use the search feature, no more than 3 characters will find who I want.

I've found Google now will do that, but it won't wake up from a lock screen. With the phone unlocked, just say "OK Google" then call (person name) If the person has more than one number the phone will ask which one to call. Or you can say call (person name) mobile, or home, or work.

Kinda off topic, but on topic in that it addresses the issue of scrolling through a ton of contacts:

You can type the person's name in the dialer (i.e. 6279 for "Mary") and it will provide a list of contacts that contain that string of both numbers and letters in their name making it very easy to dial somebody. You can spell out their whole name or just part of it.

    Works great for me.
