Help Does this phone have NFC?

No it doesn't for the UK. But Samsung have said that they're releasing a the GSII in June with NFC. This (i believe) coincides with the US release.

I think they've done that because no where in the UK has even began to trail NFC, let alone begin using it in everyday circumstances - hence it makes sense for the NFC to go in US devices/non-UK devices.

When it becomes available will it be possible for those of us who bought our phones without NFC to somehow upgrade without having to fork out again?

I don't believe so. It'll be a different unit. There has been no mention of an "upgrade" If it was possible, I'm sure they would've mentioned.

Why would you want it though?

I had heard on 'Click' (on the BBC) that there are plans in the future that there will be sim cards that will have a built in chip to get round this.

exactly...its not a concern to have a built in chip or not...they"re many way to have the nfc function!! of course the "usim" card is one of them, they"re is a micro sd card that some bank seem to prefer too...

you could even make payment with former phone

like my nokia n-86... that"s not a problem
