I was wondering if anyone has been able to get their turbo to read texts while driving. I think I have it set up correctly but it doesn't work. I do use handcent.

I use a Tasker Profile and Task to read all incoming SMS messages if the option is turned on. (I turn it off in meetings.)

This runs on any phone that will run Tasker. Simply point a Say command at the incoming message text.

My car also has that feature on Bluetooth so I really can't tell which one is doing it but, it's doing it. I get a choice to listen or ignore.

I do have it set up just like the instructions. Not sure what the issue is.

The alternate audio channel is not there on the turbo. Someone mentioned on another forum that there is no option for the turbo on alternate audio channel available. Thanks for trying to help.

Wow, that's bizarre. That help article is from the Motorola support site for the turbo. It looks like that's an official turbo bug, then. Hopefully they'll fix it soon, maybe with an update for advanced calling, maybe with the Lollipop update.

Also, if you have bluetooth in your car, might need to check settings. Yesterday, I had been listening to a youtube video, paused it and got in my car. When I tried to play it again, it played but I had no sound. When I would try to volume up, it gave me a msg sort of to the effect that listening too loud wasn't good for my ears. What??!! It gave me 0 sound. Then I realized that my car automatically linked to my phone via the bluetooth so, the phone apparently thought that the car bluetooth was playing the vid sound, but it wasn't and when I turned the bluetooth connection off, all was well with the world again.

Well, another way to test is to drive with bluetooth turned off and then have somebody send you a text. Do you get a voice prompt in that case (through the phone's speakers rather than BT?)

If not, then it's not a Bluetooth issue.

I found this troubleshooting article, but I think it's for the 2013 Moto X and 2013 Droids - I'm not sure if the same applies to the 2014 Moto X / Turbo.

I did look in the 2014 Moto X online instructions, which also mentions the alternate channel. But I've read through a bunch of online instructions for setting up Assist for driving on the 2014 Moto X, including with screenshots, and there is no mention of or screenshot of a setting that says anything about audio troubleshooting. It looks like Motorola needs to hire better QA for their online support site.

I do see when you go into the Moto app that there is a menu control upper right. Is there a setting in there that sets audio troubleshooting or alternate BT channel??

No audio trouble shooting in that setting. I keep looking and asking. Thanks

This also happens to me when I'm using Maps. No voice guide because BT is on.

I can't say for Maps, but Waze voice navigation works just fine when my turbo is connected to my 2010 suburban Bluetooth. The sound comes from the phone speaker.

I was also using handcent at the time(have since switched to hangouts due to group texting issues), was connected to phone via bluetooth, but I believe the text read and reply was all via the Turbo's speaker.

I have this problem too. My LG G2 worked fine connecting text messages with my 2014 Toyota but the Turbo does not (using Handcent with both). It appears that there is a known issue with 4.4.4 and some vehicle manufacturers. I am reading that if you delete all your saved text message threads, then un-pair and re-pair your phone it should work. I have not tried yet so I can't say for sure that this is a solution. There may be an issue with the software when a picture message (or emoticon or sound file) comes through while driving which locks up the system. If you delete the affecting text, it may work again. I will be attempting after work today, hopefully it works.

There's a setting in Waze that can toggle the sound via the phone speaker all the time or through the audio jack/Bluetooth. I've tried it and it works both ways for me, although I've yet to receive a text while driving so I don't know how or if that feature even works.

I beleive GPS has to be on. When I turned my GPS off, ("Battery Saving" mode), I stopped having my texts read.

Yes it works perfectly, I am able to receive text messages and reply to the text messages without touching the phone. It is amazing how well it works.

I use Textra and Moto Assist Driving works great with it. However, if a picture comes along with a text then it doesn't work.

I ran into this problem as well. I had the maxx and loved the driving assist feature. Switched to the turbo and it showed the icon in the notification bar as if it was working but when texts would come through it would never read aloud. I had Message+ as my default, switched to stock messages app and it works perfectly again. Bummer BC I liked the features on message+ much more.

I reckon if it doesn't work with the Messages+ app, it won't work with Hangouts either. Bummer.

It works with Hangouts on the Droid Maxx. I can't believe it would be different on the Turbo.

I had the same issue with Handcent on my previous Droid Maxx. I switched to Textra, and it worked fine. When I jumped to the Turbo, I stuck with Textra and have had no issues with the texts being read aloud. IMHO, it is Handcent that is causing this awesome feature not to work as expected. Uninstall Handcent (or temporarily disable it as your default messaging app) and test it. I will guarantee that is the issue. Good luck.

I just switched to Textra and LOVE it. It works perfectly with the moto assist features and has more options than the stock messaging.

I use Messages + with Moto Assist and my Turbo reads texts with no issues.
My husband uses Droid Maxx with Messages+ and Moto Assist. On our way shopping a few weeks ago, we both got the same text alert. Mine came in first, and when his announced the command prompt "listen", my Turbo responded and read the text.
