We have to turn off many features, turn down brightness so much that the beautiful screen looks gloomy, watch our 4 g usage, turn off GPS, watch back ground services etc etc etc... Going through the many threads on how to save battery usage, battery problems, charging vs usage, battery saving tips and the more I read the more I got bummed out. Got these great features and phone and we spend as much time trying to make the battery last a few hours as we do enjoying the features and phone.
Today I got 4 hours moderate usage on my Gnex and noticed how I spent most of the time worring about what was on or running and the screen timed out fast enough etc.
Someday I would love to have a phone like the Gnex that I can just enjoy ALL the features and have the screen at say 80% so it looks nice and bright and just come home after a day of surfing the web, listening to music or checking FB texxting and calling (withing reason of course). Take my shoes off one last look at my blazingly fast smart phone and plug it in.
Right now my GNEX runs my life. Most smart phones do. I found this started with my Thunderbolt. I was hoping the GNEX would help free me from being a slave to my battery...
    NOPE.
Slavery to a battery is wrong... Stand up and shout.. I DONT WANT TO BE A SLAVE TO MY BATTERY!!

I'm not bummed out about anything. I didn't have to shut anything off and still got 14hrs plus.

I too have been getting great battery life. I also have an extended battery arriving this week. I think the network where people live is having a large effect on battery life.

    Not at all.

Battery life is better than when I first got the TBolt.
Updates are coming that will make it better.
2050 Ext. battery is coming that will make it better and adds only .05mm
    to the thickness w00t!
Custom kernals are coming that will improve it immensely.
All in all color me impressed!

I am not having issues with having to turn stuff off. I leave everything that I normally would have on and easily make it through the day and do not have to charge until I go to bed. Much better than my thunderbolt and fascinate.

I haven't done any of these things, either. Brightness is auto, I keep 4G on all the time (and am generally in areas where it's used), haven't checked background processes, kept the GPs on (in fact was at the mall for 5 hours using a map that uses the GPS the whole time) the only thing I do is switch data off when at home on Wifi, otherwise I don't make any changes. I haven't had to plug my phone in during the day, at all.

I mean, I believe the people that are having battery issues, but I'm not, at all. I was planning on getting the extended battery, but haven't even bothered.

Edited: The only time I have it plugged in is in the car if I'm using Nav the whole time, and streaming music over 4G for a trip more than a few minutes. But I plug it in anyway to keep the screen on, so no big deal for me.

Edited2: I know people are having issues with call reception/clarity too- maybe I'm just lucky, I dunno. I read the threads before actually making a phone call. Someone called me, and when I answered, the reception was so loud and clear and better than my D2 that I actually pulled the phone away from my ear and stared at it for a second, I thought maybe I had accidentally put it on speaker, or something.

I'm getting great battery life compared to my TBolt, I'm 13 hours off the charger at 30% I'm not turning anything off except NFC because I have no use for it where I live.

My SGN went down to 11% earlier today after a full charge up to 7AM. I charged it to 50% and its now down again to 6%. My phone has essentially died twice today. That being said, I am new to smartphones and can't stop playing with it ^______^

I do find it unfortunate that you can't constantly use your phone and expect it to run all day; I imagine the person getting 14 hours was exhibiting great battery life etiquette. It's an issue that effects every phone. Getting the extended battery here and keeping a spare charged battery in my pocket.

i get about 6-7 hours of moderate use before having to recharge. i used to make it to about 13 hours with my Dinc so yea its going to take some getting used to making sure i charge it more often. thinking about getting the extended battery afterall. maybe it'll help make it through the entire day.

LOL! You can't get by physics man. There will never be a day that you can watch movies, play games, and use your phone 24/7 without it being plugged into a power source. This phone has been as good or better than my Eris and Inc ever were in the battery department and considering I'm not rooted or changing anything on this and the amount of features it has over those two, I'm extraordinarily happy with this.

I had three batteries and four chargers for my OG Droid.

Most every problem has a solution.

I got the standard battery and external charger combo with my phone. Use one battery while the other charges. No problems here.

My GNex has yet to arrive...but my Fascinate has gone through 3 batteries today. And I'm not heading to bed yet! I hope the GNex will be MUCH better!

Edit: I do already have the extended battery...just nothing to put it into! ;)

i never understood how some could on one hand treat a phone like a laptop, yet complain about battery usage.

I haven't turned off a damn thing. I have a live wallpaper. I have my wifi on. I use 3G, I use 4G. My screen brightness is "auto," not turned down to minimum.

I'm getting 10+ hours, intentionally keeping the thing off the charger just to see how good it is.

Dicking around with all these little tweaks is silly IMO. It's a smartphone, don't castrate it by turning everything off. That said, if you're sitting in front of this thing all day to do ALL of your entertainment - then yes, of course you're going to burn through battery! #1 thing by orders of magnitude is how much you have to be staring at the thing, and particularly how much you have the screen on (I turn mine off as a matter of habit after I'm done with whatever action I'm up to).

Do that, use the thing as a smartphone rather than a laptop or tablet replacement, and all will be well.

Does it bum you out that you can't drive 80mph and get the same gas mileage as when going 60mph? I mean clearly if you are using it all the time the battery will not last. Why do you need gps on all the time? Why do you need screen brightness all the way turned up? You need to be real with what the phones will be able to do and how long they will last. Even the iphone has battery issues once it was able to do more than be a glorified app launcher in IOS5

Now maybe this is just me but idk. I work 9 hours a day and don't have time to sit and use my phone for 4 hours straight when I'm out and about. What do people do, just go to a local parking lot with no outlets and sit and load websites via lte? Cars have chargers, amtrak has outlets, some planes and buses have outlets and no one goes to the park to sit and use their phone for hours.

Today I took my phone off the charger at around 9:00. I had a short saturday OT shift at work. I played music on my half hour drive to work. I don't bother plugging in while in the car unless I'm using gps. During work I probably used my phone for 20 minutes during breaks checking texts, emails, and a few websites. No LTE at work. I have an outlet available if I needed to charge. I then traveled home from work playing more music and used gps for about 20 minutes to find a record store to get the album the new roots album undun on vinyl but I didn't even plug in the charger even though it was available. I also get LTE when traveling to and from work. Now my phone says "11h 35m 2 s on battery"and is at 35% charge from a whole days usage which included about 25 minutes of gps usage and about 50 texts total sent back and forth. Not bad if you ask me. This is a typical day for me. I would show you the battery usage screen for proof but I'm actually still on the razr until my gnex arrives so I can't easily do a screenshot, but I can't imagine the gnex being more than 5% worse especially since I got the extended battery.

And by the way, did you pick up the extended battery? I'm not sure if the sale is still on but they were selling them for $25 on amazon.

I agree with you. These people must really do nothing at work if they are streaming netflix and on the web all day on their phones. I bought the extended battery and it works great and gives an extra added boost.
