So this morning as I was searching for new apps in the market I came across a new one. It's called "Download Crutch." It essentially allows you to download files you otherwise would not be able to with the browser. I used the native browser to test so I don't know if Steel or Opera Mini work with it. Interestingly enough, it does exactly what it says. It doesn't have a sleek new interface or anything, but so far this is one of the most useful apps I've seen in the market. Taking it a step further, I was able to download a pdf file and then read it directly on my G1 with the help of another app called "JetCet PDF." It worked perfectly and I was able to read the pdf file I just downloaded. I know I read somewhere that there's a workaround for this sort of thing, but I found this a whole lot easier than having to download via pc and then transfer the file to the sd card. Instead, using these two apps I was able to do it all on the handset and it even saves the file to the sd card. I couldn't be happier with this functionality. Now to the downside. The Beta release for JetCet PDF will expire tomorrow. I just discovered it today, so only a day left to play with it, but hopefully they will put out a final release so we can still use it. That's the big downside to my discovery. Check it out for yourself, even if it is only for a day.
