Download apk file from market

Can someone with a rooted phone please help me download a .apk file from the android market and post it somewhere where I can access it?

when you install the application it should be located in /data on your phone

The application I'm interessted in is called "Gmail Unread Count OLD"

thanks in advance

It's indeed still listed in the Market:

Please note that this application has been deprecated. You may still continue to use it but it sports several flaws which has been fixed in the new version.

However, the download hangs forever (on Gingerbread).

So unless someone else manages to get it downloaded and post it here or in PM I'm afraid you're out of luck.

The download probably hangs forever in Gingerbread because of the problems that occurred on the last GMail update which rendered this program unusable. I bet the OP has figured out a way to use the old one. (I know I'm still running an older Froyo rom because they never updated the Gmail apk and I can use all the old programs for unread counts that the new gmail blocked).

I can install it, but I can not access the apk file because my phone isn't (and can't be) rooted

hmmm...interesting. Care to elaborate. I'm curious now. Do you mean you can't install from unknown source or you can't install it from the market. Is this your work phone, that's why it can't be rooted?

I *can* install it, no problem there. But since my phone isn't rooted I *can not* access the apk-file.

My phone can not be rooted - well simply because I do not think there's and exploit for it yet. I have and HTC desiree with HTC's official 2.3.3 firmware - and unrevoked says the firmware is too new.

The reason I want the apk is not to install the app - I can (as I said) do that just fine, but I am doing some reverse engineering on a couple of apps (including this one).

ah, cool :) Thanks for the explanation. So you'll post your result right, tiger? ;)
