Download speeds drastically increased by changing servers

Speedtest is really a broad test.

It's a lot like putting a car up on jacks and seeing how fast the wheels will spin.

It can tell you about gross problems and maybe about some server in particular - but how often are you downloading from Verizon or Google servers?

Not often, unless you use their media services (assuming that Verizon has some, I honestly don't know).

And in addition to the server, you're also testing the path.

And the path is determined dynamically. The path between LA and NYC might be nearly a straight line one day, but go to Florida first when you try it next week or next month.

That's how the internet works, and there's no control on that.

PS - high speed and long ping time is not actually as fast as a lower speed and a shorter ping time. This is especially true for streaming media, like Netflix or Play Movies or something. There, ping times are more important.
