I remembered this today from using Windows Mobile (finally a good use for WM). I went in to Gmail app clicked menu, accounts, menu, account settings, click manage accounts on your account and uncheck everything.

Next go to Mail, new account, create exchange account. Your email will be _____@gmail.com, enter password, hit next. Renter email address, Server Address m.google.com, User Name ______@gmail.com, enter your password. Leave Domain Name Blank o. Select Data you wish to sync. Finish Setup.

To my knowledge this works just like Gmail app but you can go back in to menu, more, settings and change attachment/email download sizes. Schedule, signature, notification etc.

Hope this helps and is not a repeat, I did a lot of searching and the only thing I could find was download an app or go to gmail.com Just got my phone and made these changes so if someone with a little more knowledge of their battery life might could check the usage vs. gmail app
