    Wow. I thought Motorola was supposed to be getting friendlier and unlocking bootloaders. Now they want to brick your device if you even try to root it? This is ridiculous. Someone should organize a boycott over this.

    Well, from the devil's advocate point of view, Motorola and their carriers may be seeing enough bricked or otherwise unusable devices from users attempting to root them and removing system files, etc. A good talker can get a refurb even if s/he's brought the phone out of warranty by rooting (often being successful at a factory data reset, but that reset still retaining the missing files issues which caused the user to bring it back in).

    So, their strategy seems to be to do as much as they can to disallow rooting, thus keeping more devices out of the refurb loop.

    In that case, they should make them easier to root and provide the stock recovery package so they would be nearly unbrickable.
