I'm caught in a bind and I'm sure I'm not alone. I've been following both these phones in their development for months now. They seem to have almost exactly the same specs. The big differences are the the Droid 3 will have a physical keyboard and it will not have 4G LTE as the Bionic does. The problem is these are two much wanted features.

What do you guys think? Stick with the keyboard? Or go with 4G? Or do you think they may still make the Droid 3 4G capable?

If the new specs on the Bionic live up to all the hype, it'll be a beast.

You should include the SGSII in the poll if it's a poll for "Upcoming Verizon Superphones"

4G all the way. I would imagine the D3 is ultimately being geared towards Droid and D2 lovers and those that still need physical keys. I can't see not going with a 4g phone at this stage of the game...(pause) I forgot, not everyone is in good 4g areas. Forget everything I said.

I really don't think the D3 and the Bionic are even close to comparable. Apples to Oranges. If you like/want a physical keyboard or want the phone in the next month you have one choice. If you are willing to wait a few months perhaps more and are in a 4G area, then for sure I would go with the Bionic. These two phones will appeal to two different groups of people. By the time the Bionic makes its appearance, there will more than likely be other options that are comparable to the Bionic.

I would go with the bionic just because I am in a 4g area. Not to mention both phones should be pretty future proof since they both are equipped with dual core which may be a requirement for future versions of android. I wish they would just announce these two or atleast release some more specs.

I dont have a need for physical keyboards anymore. I barely used it on my Droid 1. Even tho emulators are better with the pk, I dont really want one anymore.

Yea, since one is 4G and the other isnt, that along with one having a physical keyboard it will really depend on what you want.

I really REALLY wish the D3 would have LTE. I don't think it will, sadly. But without it having LTE, there won't be an LTE phone with a keyboard for so long.

I don't understand the move away from physical keyboards. They're just better in every way...

No? They add bulkiness and a sub-par keyboard. I like the virtual qwerty typing on a vertical screen using swiftkey. It predicts everything I say and I can type 160 characters in about 5 seconds... just by pressing the things it predicts.

Yeah. Going to have to agree to disagree with the "physical keyboard is better" sentiment.

I had the D1 for a while and found that I can type MUCH faster with swype. It took a bit to get used to, but as long as you know the qwerty layout, it's so much quicker.

That on top of the added bulk, and it seems like a no brainer to me. But hey, to each his own.

I haven't tried swiftkey yet, but I've heard good things.

I guess everyone has their own preferences on typing. I personally like physical keyboards for long posts, but for texting, the virtual keyboard is so much better.

Even a typing test won't work, though. You are obviously going to type faster on the method you're most used to.

The world record for texting speed was done using swype, however.

Regardless, as I said, to each his own.

I have a buddy who hates swype, but it's because he doesn't know the qwerty layout instinctively, so he has a hard time not being able to see all the letters as he swypes.

Well, the Droid 3 has been leaked enough to make it pretty obvious it's not getting an LTE radio. Bionic for me, unless the Galaxy S2 magically has LTE (it won't).

I think it will. I think the D3 is the last 3g phone Verizon will release, at least the last high end 3g phone. Nothing specific leads me to believe that, just seems it makes good business since.

For all of our sakes, I hope you're right. But realize that if the Function is LTE, it'll essentially make the Charge completely obsolete. And Verizon wouldn't want to do that just a few months after its release, especially because the Charge is part of its beloved Droid line, whereas the Function is not.

True, but on the other side of the coin I couldn't see them releasing this much of a hyped up phone with out it being able to take advantage of all the network features.

Part of your point makes me believe the SGS2 will not be out for a while, just on principle (Because of the Charge). But, they could have known the Charge would be quickly eclipsed by the SGS2 and only factored in so many units of sales for it.

i think verizon will continue to release high end 3g phones. I mean there are still many areas of the country said not to get 4g until 2012 or later. There is still a demand for 3g phones. I wish they would release more 4g phones because I think a lot of people would buy them just to try and be a little more future proof and even due to solely the marketing for 4g phones. But with verizon who knows what they are thinking. If I was running verizon I would want to get as many 4g phones out as possible to try and lure the most amount of customers. They could have possibly stole some customers who were looking at the sensation and the EVO 3d if they released the bionic in June. But then again verizon is always last to release anything and then it still has problems most of the time.
