So i dropped my droid and it is done for. it wont turn on at all.

anyways, my droid was rooted. what should i do now if i go turn it in and get my insurance claim am i gonna have to pay full retail since its rooted? should i say i lost it? or should i just say i dropped it and it broke? what do you think would be the best thing for me to do tommorow when i go to verizon? i know im gonna have to may, but i would rather pay my insurance claim than full retail.

    thanks

Does it really matter whether it is rooted or not if you have insurance?

I'd go in the store and get a good feel of the guy you talk to. If you feel like you can be sincere, then tell the truth. We know some can be jerks, so do whatever it takes to get you a new phone.

In theory it shouldn't be a problem since it being rooted has nothing to do with it breaking because you dropped it.

If you rooted and bricked it, that's when it's not covered under warranty. That being said, I don't think dropping it is under warranty anyway so it should make no difference to the insurance.

Yeah, but lots of companies try to pin completely unrelated hardware deaths on unauthorized software modifications. Verizon will probably tell him that he overclocked it and that made it so hot that he couldn't hold onto the phone and dropped it!

But yeah, if you have insurance and they refuse to take it back because it was rooted, you could kindly point out that water damage is covered under insurance and what's stopping you from throwing the phone into a pool and getting a replacement?

How high and on what surface did you drop it? Did you have a case on it? I'm interested. I've never dropped mine so the case I have on it has never been tested out. I wonder how much it really helps

I would do what has already been suggested. Ask the Verizon guy without giving him any identifying information until you see if he's "cool." I doubt they would take the time to fix the hardware and then check to see if you rooted it before they sent you a new one anyway.

If "it doesn't turn on at all", then what does it matter if it is/was rooted?

I had a new phone over night shipped to me for free, cuz the charging port was loose and would not charge. All I did was call Verizon and talked to tech support and let them know my issues and the Guy said as that is covered by the manufacturers warranty he would be glad to send me a new phone. Then told me I would have it in two to three days. I told him I couldn't wait that long and I needed my phone ASAP and he said well I could ship it over night to you for no extra charge. So 21 hours later I had a new Droid. If there is no physical damage of being dropped call and let them know it wont charge turn on or anything. If there is physical damage from being dropped I would do the insurance claim and say I lost it to avoid root questions.

Did you still have to pay the $90 replacement fee (or whatever they're calling it)?

If your asking me if I had to pay $90 then no I didn't pay anything. If you have an issue with your phone that is a manufacturer defect then Motorolas warranty kicks in and replaces your phone.
