So I just got off the phone with a guy. I spent an hour on the phone with him. I used my droid the entire time. I was outside, the wind was blowing and it was horrible.

as I climbed into the car I asked him if he could hear me better.... He said "I have heard ya fine the entire time, really good quality".

He was surprised that I had been out in wind (easily gusting to 20 mph) and all that. Said I must have one excellent phone. To which I replied "Yup, I love my 'droid".

The nature of this call? A high level job interview. Yup, Droid Does have good sound quality on a call.

Too funny...i've been reading in alot of forums that droid call quality is crappy...mine has been great so far...only had one incident where someone told me i sound muffled and i think it was because i was sick.

I did have an issue the second day i had my droid where i didn't receive about 10 calls in a row from my girl in a 40 min span...but that has seemed to have gone away. Technology is a pain.

It's refreshing to hear someone that is having the same experience that I'm having. Sometimes reading these threads makes me feel like I'm living in a parallel universe.

I thought so too, until recently.

My call quality has been great. Nary one complaint on either end. However, a couple of weeks ago, I was speaking to my friend for the first time on his new Droid.

    Awful.

It sounded like he had his hand over the phone, and was talking to his wife. Which he was not, since he was alone, and was getting angry that I couldn't hear him.

So apparently some phones are worse than others.

If you have any friends with the Droid, has anyone noticed that when they do not talk directly into the mic, the call quality sucks?

I usually always hold my phone when I am talking, but my girlfriend, who has a Droid, talks, she sometimes holds it with her shoulder. A few times, it was nearly impossible to hear her, and I told her to talk directly into the mic, and the problem was solved.

So anyone that is having call quality complaints, maybe just try talking directly into the mic?

!!! immediate disclaimer !!! the picture is taken with my droid, so i had to use a droid stunt double

i do have a "reason" call quality may be lacking. if you hold your phone like this (see lame picture) then you can partially block the microphone. the "muffled" sound some people hear may be attributed to this. i went through a week long phase when NO ONE could understand me. this was the reason ... for me. i am not saying it's the same for everyone, but it was in my case.

sorry the picture is freaking huge.

****side note**** i don't think talking directly in the mic matters, i used to lay the phone on my lap with a cable running to my car stereo and people can hear me just fine. that way i can drive and talk without using the speaker phone. no one has ever complained when i do this. now i have the car dock. i don't have to be facing the phone for them to hear me.

I have the car dock so I dont have to hold the phone when I am talking. Multiple people I have called and said I sound perfectly fine, except a little queiter then usual. Its a lot safer also. I can also run my charger and plug it into an fm transmitter for Slacker Radio!

Ditto here ... except I use Pandora. But my wife says that call quality is excellent when I'm in the car with the DROID in the car dock some 16" in front of me and several inches higher than my mouth.

Yeah I had Pandora on my WinMo phone and didnt like the app of it, just never gave it another look, so I dont know, could have just been the app. Should try it lol. Just too lazy, Slacker works and I like it. Pfft!

Gotta say, I love the call quality on my droid. I was serioulsy worried as I'd been reading threads about bad quality, and I'm quite touchy there. But, I've been floored by how nice sounding in/out bound mine has been. Better than my Blackberries, and I felt they were very good.

I thought the second mic on the back utilized noise cancellation to remove background noise. That would certainly explain why wind wouldn't hurt your phone call quality.

I did not know that! Thanks for the heads up. Can anyone point to where the second mic is located?!

I like the quality as well, BUT there is one person who can't hear me well, and that's my SO. It's a bit of a drag, since that's who I call the most.

My wife complains constantly when I call her on the Droid. She says the call quality is mediocre at best, and she knows when I am doing the shoulder hold, as she cannot hear it at all. Whenever I try to get away with it, she calls me out right away. And she's not the only one who's complained.

Call quality is definitely a strong point... now if only I could get the damn proximity sensor to function properly when holding the phone up to my right ear

I have thoroughly enjoyed the call quality on my Droid. By far a very good strong point and much better than my HTC Eris.

If you think the Droid is bad, try using a Palm 700WX. Worst phone ever.

People say I sound muffled when I talk...and the eris seems slightly better, in my opinion but my droid does cancel out wind...idk...

I took this from the seidio innocase site. The second mic is where they have the hole cut out at the top center of the case.
