The clock/media center on the DROID when I place it into the docking station is cool but actually really annoying. It defaults to the brightest screen setting (which is really bright when all the lights are out in the room...I use it as my alarm clock), which means every time I hook it in I have exit out of the media center, decrease the screen brightness via a widget, then enter back into the media center.
Does anyone know if there is a way to either download a different program to run when the DROID is placed into the docking station or place the settings so it doesn't default to the brightest screen setting?
Even on the lowest setting the screen is really bright, but much better than the default brightest screen setting.

Sidenote, I think the media center when docking the DROID needs completely revamped anyway...if any developers by any chance read this. The "nightlight" setting is actually brighter than the regular setting. The media center/clock needs to be changed in its nightlight setting from the lightish blue to basically all black except the icons and clock in a faint green so that the phone is giving off as little light while still making it readable at night in the dark. The way it is now looks good on a youtube demo vid, but in real life it's actually less practical since it's so bright.
    Just sayin.

If you're rooted, Pete's Bugless Beast has the 2.1 "Clock" app in it that looks similar to the stock multimedia dock, but when you hit the night button, it dims the screen/backlight way more than the phone can while in use, so it's nice and dim, but still legible at night. It's definitely a better alternative than the stock multimedia dock. Actually, I think this link is that clock and has is .apk for you to install it yourself if you're not rooted (just use Astro or something to install the .apk). If you still don't care much.

Also, another good alternative is "Bedside" in the market. It's like $1.79, but it lets you totally customize what color/brightness you want your background and digits to be. It's really soft on the eyes and you can configure it to automatically open when docked and close when undocked just like the stock app. It's pretty much totally customizable to your liking. But it makes it even better if you're rooted because you can download "LEDs hack" from the market to disable the 4 soft keys back light on edge of your droid (which annoyed me). It's kinda ghey you can't disable those lights without being rooted, but fortunately, I am so it wasn't that bad.

Thanks T4rd...I have not rooted my phone. I have average tech savvy, but the rooting process makes me nervous. I'm sure I'd find a way to brick my phone. But it sounds like there is so much more capability (or opportunity, rather) with rooted phones. I'm gonna have to look into it.
I'll check out the other clocks too. I saw "Bedside" before and am tempted to get it.
    'preciate the help.

The new 2.1 clock is a lot better. I would download the apk and install it with astro. Its really easy to do.

I'm assuming that I'll need Android 2.1 -- I'm looking into rooting it now. Doing my research to minimize the chance of brickage.
