I named my ROBerta

with emphasis on the ROB (bot) part.

I named her Susan.

The reason this sounds like this is because it is actually taking the text and making it speech. The celebrity voices and smoother voices are just saying "In 100 meters, turn right". Very general statements that have been pre-recorded. This voice will say "in 100 meters, turn on Blah Blah road."

You are lucky. I had some very strange experiences and weird routes. I can see wht it is still in beta! My comments below:

edit: these misdirections could be due to the Google Street View work and perhaps they were not allowed to travel through this area.. just another thought.

Good point. Most bases will not allow personnel without military credentials to drive on their base/post. Also, when Google was going around doing the street view thing, they were not allowed to go on military installations. I think they got on a few, but that was quickly stopped. Go on Google Earth and you'll notice you can't do "street view" on most installations. Security purposes.
