droid pattern lock question

Is there any way to set the lock up so that it will only make you enter your pattern if you haven't used your phone for a certain amount of time. This would be nice because we I am texting or something I don't need to put the pattern in every time, but if I set it down for a while it would come on

I think the only way is to set your screen timeout to 10 min or never (sound & display settings).

Yeah, but I would keep it on to lock after a certain amount of time. It saves the battery.
