I have a droid razr and it keeps trying to update 98.72.165.en.us

I am concerned about screwing up my phone. Do I need this update? I think I read something about it is for roaming in canada/alaska.

Do I need to d/l it? Is there a way to disable it? Is there any advantage/detriment to downloading/not downloading?

Will it erase any pix or texts or open browser pages if I do it

    Thanks

    So Cal
No noticeable change in how the phone operates. It did not change or delete any apps, pictures, data, etc.

My phone is 2 years old and is still suffering from the same lags and slow response that many of the older phones are experiencing.

I did not lose root after installing this update and noticed no positives nor negatives on phone operation so far.

This has to be the most unexciting update for someone who lives in the lower 48. Too bad they couldn't just throw in some easter egg for us! :)

    Good question.

Fortunately, FoxFi still works. I just tested it and everything is the same.

I thought my phone was defective but I guess other RAZR MAXX owners are having the same issues. I just received the update a few days ago and I was hoping it was going to resolve the lag and slow response. Looks like the only thing to do is get a new phone when I can afford it. Don't want to lose my unlimited plan from Verizon Wireless.

Does anyone know if this update addresses a problem with a feature called "fast dormancy"? This is a way to shorten any data transfer between a phone and cell and thereby reduce battery consumption. The Canadian wireless provider who is known to have this problem is Rogers. I've also experienced it using the Bahamian telephone net.

Basically what happens is the data (not voice) connection gets slower and slower and then fails outright. The work-around to date is to edit a file called build.prop. The phone must be rooted and there's an app to edit build.prop. The changes needed are way outside the scope of this area (e.g., should be in the Rooted area).
