As I am VERRY VERY hard of hearing I first turned off voice privacy in call settings and use speaker a lot. If I am in high noise then I plug in earbuds. About to invest in bluetooth for on road. No way am I going to give up my X just because of hearing problems!! If my conversation needs to be private I find a quiet spot or just text.

I'm almost in the same boat, although not ready to part with the phone. the in-call volume is terrible and my failing hearing isn't helping matters. I'd like to hear suggestions/solutions for the times when I'm not able to use ear buds. isn't there some way to make this thing louder?

IMHO, my Storm2 is much louder than my DX. I partially attribute that to the size of the earpiece grill. The DX has those sensors in the plastic bezels on either side of the grill, whereas the grill is much longer on the Storm2. I think what you're facing is simply bad(?) industrial design.

Unfortunately, I do not know of a hack to make the earpiece volume louder, so I don't know if it is hardware or software related.
